Top 5… worlds I want to live in

Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is ‘worlds I want to live in’. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the super lovely Shanah over at the Bionic Bookworm. You can visit her here, and join in for Top 5 Tuesday by checking out all the amazing topics we have coming up!

So, surprisingly, this is NOT going to be a list of my top 5 worlds in books, because truth be told, there’s a very small chance that I would actually survive long enough in them to enjoy anything, should I even make it to my current age. No, these worlds below are ones that I could genuinely live in, happily. I know, crazy, right?

***

First and foremost is the Discworld by Terry Pratchett. I would absolutely move to Lancre and attempt to outstare Granny Weatherwax until she agreed to ‘prentice me. It’s all about the headology. And goats. I could look after goats. ?????

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman would have to come in at number two. I was reading this book exactly a year ago, and on 15 November 2017 I boarded a plane to London (totally coincidentally, the tickets had been booked since February!), where I peeked down every alleyway I could to try and glimpse some secret doorway or person who had fallen through the cracks of society in the briefest of chances that I could be spirited away into this magical fairytale for adults. Gaiman’s world fascinated me so much, that I’m actually terrified to pick up another book of his in case I don’t love it as much. How’s that for weird?!

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. I know this one is a bit of a cop out as Stiefvater writes urban fantasy, so I guess I could be living in this world? But, the magical aspects of this story are what I love so much about it. Ley lines are real! Dead Welsh kings are real! Maybe the rest could be too! I would absolutely live in a world of Greywarens and drag racing and pizza at Nino’s and fathers that live in trees. (To be honest, I’d probably also choose to live on Thisby, but it’s more likely that I’d survive in Henrietta.)

This is absolutely the point where my list starts to slip towards the ‘not entirely sure I’d make it out alive… after a month’ stage, but The Witches of Eileanan by Kate Forsyth is next. I have loved this series for over half of my life, as the magic is pure and the characters are amazing and the world building is phenomenal. This series was my HP growing up, and I can’t wait to reread it next year (mostly because it has literally been years)!

I have to have a dragon story in here, so I choose Iskari by Kristen Ciccarelli. The stories and mythologies in this series are so lovely, and to be honest I kind of just want to crawl into these books and live here. I love the characters and the world building so much, and Ciccarelli is fast becoming a brand new favourite author.

Annnnnd, just for fun: Top 5 worlds I wish I could live in, but doubt I would make it past Thursday…

  1. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
  2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
  3. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
  4. The Folk of the Air by Holly Black
  5. The Old Kingdom by Garth Nix

Happy reading! ☺️?
