July 2022 book haul
Hello friends!! Welcome to the July 2022 book haul!! A post where I talk about all the books that I bought and received in the previous month.
Where in June we had a delightfully low four books added to my TBR… July is essentially the opposite. July usually ends up being a high-intake month for books, as my birthday is in the second half of June, and due to horrendous delays in postage, I can usually count on getting half of any gifts sent (including what I buy for myself) in July instead.
So, in the July of our year of Kelly Clarkson 2022, I hauled the ridiculous number of SEVENTEEN books. *le sigh*
This year there won’t be any shaming for buying excess than my haul goals. In saying that, my haul goals this year are to only buy books I will read immediately, so that’s a step in the right direction. The main goal for the year, is to buy less books than I read. I’m trying not to increase my TBR this year. 😓
So, let’s go see the books I hauled in July!!
July 2022 book haul
Book haul categories are as follows:
- book boxes (monthly/quarterly subscription or special edition book boxes)
- review copies (book mail, digital and gifts)
- book purchases (book mail, in-store and ebook*)
* Not counting Kindle Unlimited
I subscribe to a bunch of book boxes that I usually skip because 2022 is the year of cutting back. (Except in July, apparently…)
And in July, I had three books arrive. My June FairyLoot (book-only YA) sub which was This Vicious Grace by Emily Thiede. My June Illumicrate (book-only, YA) sub which was We All Fall Down by Rose Szabo. And, *finally* my March FairyLoot (book box, YA) sub. No, that’s not a typo, I genuinely my MARCH sub. Which was The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh. I don’t know what happened with it, but watching the tracking it looked like the book arrived in Australia in April, only to turn around and go to Germany the following day. For a while I thought it might come back, but when I contacted FairyLoot in May they agreed to look into it, and then finally sent another box in June.
Images below all link to the Instagram owner, where you can mostly see alternate images. But seriously, check out how absolutely lovely The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea is. This book is 100% my prettiest book of the year.
During July, I bought three ebooks, and received eight physical books in the mail. Which is a grand total of 11 books hauled. (Yes, this includes birthday gifts.)

I received three review books in July. Including one that I also received in June. The only solicited book that I received (but was also not expecting to get a copy of), was Violet Made of Thorns by Gina Chen (YA fantasy). Dead Good Detectives is a paranormal middle grade, and Everything Feels Like the End of the World is an adult collection of essays.

So… what does this all mean for my book buying limit for 2022? Well, because I apparently can’t count at all, I made a new row on my giant TBR spreadsheet to figure it out for me.
I think this is what the numbers should actually be:
- Commenced 2022 with physical TBR: 456
- Increased physical TBR in 2022 by: 43
- Subtotal physical TBR: 499
- Read physical books: 23
- TOTAL PHYSICAL TBR: 476
- TBR variance: +20
I mean, my secret aim was to get my physical unread books down to 400, but I guess that’s not happening this year. Not sure I can fit 76 books in for the next 4.5 months. So, I guess I better start working on at least 20 of them so I’m not INCREASING my starting point.
New goal for 2022: Get physical TBR down to 450. Maybe I can unhaul some books that I likely won’t read??
What was in your July 2022 book haul?

Wow you hauled some great books this month! Book Lovers is a top tier choice. I wasn’t a huge fan of Curse of the Wolf King — some weird pacing issues — but I hope you like it more than I did!!

Ooh, interesting. I only got the first one because I don’t know the author or heard anything about it. But I do love a good fairytale retelling. Maybe I will have lower expectations now?! 😂

I think the year is just going by too fast and see, you’re not actually buying TOO many books – it’s just that you’re buying books for a longer year. I don’t know where I’m going with this 😄 But I do know that I want to read a lot of these books, but alas, the year is too fast for them all 😭 😭 But I do think an unhaul of maybe the unsolicited books would be good? Because the likelihood of you getting to them are much lower than the other books on your tbr.
Then at least, even if you just unhaul 2 or 5 books, that moves you closer to your goal and that’s 2 or 5 books off of your tbr.
meeghan
True… I did go through my shelves on Thursday and remove a few books that I definitely won’t read though. So I’m at least back below 450!!

I love everything about this post. I read Below Zero and def have A Proposal They Can’t Refuse on my TBR. I love how your TBR genres are so widely spread. Can’t wait to see what you prioritize this year!

Thank you!! I pretty much read anything that sounds good, except horror. I hope you enjoy A Proposal They Can’t Refuse!! I really loved it 🥰 I did a mini review on a WWW Wednesday when I finished it if you’re interested.

My goodness that poor March book just going on an adventure lol, glad they were able to send another copy!

Hahaha, I know!! I just kept watching it float around the world until it just stopped existing in the system. It was so weird!! 😂
