May 2021 book haul

Hello bookworms!! Welcome to the May 2021 book haul!! A monthly post where I shame myself for never achieving my goal of buying less than I read…

EXCEPT!! I actually achieved my book haul goal this month?!! Which… is the first time this year!! I’m actually really excited about this!!

In case you aren’t aware (which, fair, because I still don’t think I’ve posted it…) my goal for each month is to only purchase 7 books, split between purchased books and books from book boxes. So, 7 paid books in total. But also I need to read more books than I collect each month, including review books. So it’s kind of a 2-part goal.

So, let’s go see all the books I got in May!!

book boxes

I subscribe to three monthly boxes: OwlCrate (which I sometimes skip and sometimes swap to OwlCrate Jr), FairyLoot and the book-only subscription for Illumicrate. I also subscribe to the quarterly book-only option for LitJoy.

So, here is where I’m up to as at the end of April:

  • ? = arrived in a previous month
  • ✅ = arrived this month
  • ? = in transit
  • ➡️ = skipped
  • ?️ = parked (not out yet)
  • ❎ = did not switch to
  • ❌ = confirmed that it was lost to the mail gremlins (but thankfully refunded)

Also… I totally forgot that I received my Illumicrate copies of Dreams and Days at the end of April!! So I didn’t update my spreadsheet, which means I missed it from my list.

I did get my OwlCrate copy of Mister Impossible though. And it’s so beautiful!! I’m just waiting on my signed, personalised copy from Maggie’s local bookstore. Because you can never have enough Stiefvater books!! ? Photo credit of the OwlCrate edition (with reversible dust jacket) to Maggie.

book purchases

I do try and aim for 5 books per month, which means I can cover 2 with the subscription boxes. But I’m still in my limit of 7 total this month, so I’m counting 6 as a win!! ?

Admittedly, I read a lot of backlist books this month… so not many new books read. Fingers crossed I’ll get to all of these soon!!

review copies

I received Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean in May, and it was such a cute book!! I still need to finish writing my review for it, but I enjoyed it so much. Thanks PanMac for sending me a copy!!
