June '19 book haul

Good morning bookworms!

We are (hopefully) getting back to our regularly scheduled content now… The book haul categories are as follows:

  • book boxes
  • book purchases (book mail, instore and digital)
  • review copies (book mail and digital), and
  • bookish merch (book related, but not actual books)

I subscribe to three monthly boxes: OwlCrate, FairyLoot and the book-only subscription for LitJoy. Here is what arrived in June:

  • FairyLoot’s May box theme was Unlikely Romances, and the book was The Beholder by Anna Bright
  • LitJoy’s June theme was Restricted Section, and the book was Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

My June FairyLoot and Owlcrate boxes were sent to my old address, so they are making their way north as I write this. Fingers crossed they both come today; however, I know that they BOTH also have Sorcery of Thorns in them. (This is what happens when I get distracted and don’t check for duplicates, of course it was the month that all three boxes had the same book.)

Surprisingly not many of these I actually bought in June (despite receiving a very large gift voucher for my birthday!). In fact, most were pre-orders that I had sent to my mum’s address as I didn’t know where we would be in April-June!

Key: ? physical book | ? ebook

  • The Boy Who Steals Houses – C.G. Drews ? (YASSSSSSS!! I finally have a finished copy!)
  • Aurora Rising – Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff ?
  • Starfell: Willow Moss and the Lost Day – Dominique Valente ?
  • Charmcaster – Sebastien de Castell ?
  • Soulbinder – Sebastien de Castell ?
  • Parental Guidance – Avery Flynn ?
  • Darius the Great is Not Okay – Adib Khorram ?

This is also slowing down a bit, which is so nice!!

Key: ? physical book | ? ebook

Actually, the only bookish item I received in June was a fan art print of Sam and Moxie from C.G. Drews’ The Boy Who Steals Houses. So I FINALLY got to take a photo of the print AND my two copies of the book!! ? (It’s a rubbish photo, but I can’t lift my table top background at the moment, so it’s all you get…)

ahh so many of these are on my TBR!! Darius sounds amazing, and the physical copy of Sorcery is way more beautiful than it is on screen if that’s even possible. Plus, The Boy Who Steals Houses sounds so good!

Hi Caitlin!! TBWSH is AMAZING!! I can’t scream about it enough. And the author is #ownvoices autism and anxiety, so that’s even more awesome.
I got the FairyLoot Sorcery of Thorns yesterday and the sprayed edges are DIVINE. I think I died from how pretty they are!

Thanks Kathy!! I have also seen some ‘meh’ reviews (and DNFs) for it… but I usually like the FairyLoot books… Not that I’ve read them all (OMG I need a holiday to catch up) but I’m curious anyway – the premise sounds great!

oh man, what a coincidence that all three of your subscription boxes are sending you the same book ? have you decided whether you’re keeping all three copies or doing something else with the extras?
all these books are so pretty, I still need to read TBWSH and Aurora Rising but Darius the Great was fantastic! and The Bride Test was pretty awesome too. that art print is adorable too omg ?

I haven’t seen the OwlCrate one yet, but I did pick up the FairyLoot yesterday and it has the MOST GORGEOUS glittery teal sprayed edges I have ever seen. So that one’s a keeper. The LitJoy always has a reversible dust jacket, so it’s a keeper too. Unless I put the LitJoy jacket over the FL book, and then pass on / sell the LJ book… But they always put art in it as well… And Owlcrate usually does a different cover… Oh the decisions!
The art is gorgeous, and I LOVE IT so much!! The book was amazing. I seriously cannot scream about TBWSH enough.
      (I also haven’t read AR… and I’ve had it since April… I am a bad Kaufman/Kristoff fan…)
You’ll tell me!! Do I need to have read The Kiss Quotient before I read The Bride Test??

      • Isabelle @ BookwyrmBites

you don’t have to read The Kiss Quotient first! The Bride Test focuses on different characters; I guess technically it spoils whether the TKQ leads end up together and you don’t get quite as much joy out of the TKQ cameos, if that’s something you care about, but otherwise imo it doesn’t make a bit of difference ?

Thanks Greg!! The FairyLoot edition came on Monday and the glittery teal sprayed edges were so beautiful!! I am not regretting multiple copies at the moment!!
