WWW Wednesday – 29 December 2021

Hello bookworms!! Welcome to this week’s WWW Wednesday — 29 December 2021!! And also technically for 22 December because I was noticeably absent last week… Oops?! Yes, that’s right. As soon as I announced I was informally doing Blogmas, everything fell over. Maybe the trick is to never announce I’m doing anything… 🤔

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words, where you answer the three following questions:

  • What did you recently finish?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • And, what do you think you’ll read next?

So… let’s get to it!!

A Dashwood of sense and Sensibility by Anyta SundayA Dashwood of Sense and Sensibility by Anyta Sunday 📱

Yes, I went for the easy book to finish off my 100 book goal for 2021 — also the most enjoyable of the ones I was reading. So I’m not even mad. It was, of course, super cute like I was expecting. And I even cried a little. I especially love books with trans kids who are treated as they should be by family. It makes me so happy that my little heart just crumples.

The Geek Who Saved Christmas by Annabeth AlbertThe Geek Who Saved Christmas by Annabeth Albert 📱

No regrets, I needed a Christmas story to get me in the mood for the holidays. Or maybe I needed 5. Who can even be sure? Anyway, I trusted Albert to get me in the mood as I loved her True Colours series (read both of them this year and can highly recommend — queer nerds for the win). Soft queer stories with HEAs are exactly what I was needing in my life.

what i'm reading

The City of Zirdai by Maria V SnyderThe City of Zirdai by Maria V. Snyder 🗒

This was on my list last week and I had only read 55 pages. In the week since I’can honestly say I read a grand total of 2 pages. It’s right to say that I though my dystopian slump was over, but alas it is not. I’m still going to push through on this, but I doubt I will read it before the end of the year.

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan MatsonThe Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson 🗒

I totally increased the pages read on this from 14 to 23, which shows progress… just not as much as I would like… Ooops?! I was kind of hoping that I would make more gains with this one before Christmas arrived, but it was not to be. Maybe afterwards??

The Scorpio Races by Maggie StiefvaterThe Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater 🎧

I’ve made more progress with this than the others, but I accidentally fell asleep while listening to it, and I’m yet to figure out where I was actually up to. In saying that, I’ve reread it so many times I know what’s happened in between, but I am also a completionist. And I feel like I need to go back and listen properly. So, we’ll see how that pans out.

what's up next

Jay's Gay Agenda by Jason JuneI was going to keep Jay’s Gay Agenda as my final tick off for 2021, but given that I don’t think I’ll finish the challenge (unless I read my nephews some kids books with Z and U’s in the titles, then this one is probably better saved for 2022.

In saying that, maybe I’ll surprise myself and smash them all out over the Christmas break!! Miracles do happen (apparently)!!

what i finished

Only One Bed by Keira AndrewsOnly One Bed by Keira Andrews 📱

Hilariously, I managed to leave all of my books at home when we went away for Christmas. I know, I’m an idiot. This meant that I did manage to read a few more Christmas stories that I meant to read earlier in December though, so not all was lost!! This is a sweet, queer Christmas story that has a companion novel coming out in January!! Plus, it features one of my fave tropes: only one bed!!

Window Shopping by Tessa BaileyWindow Shopping by Tessa Bailey 📱

I thought this was going to be a sweet, middle-of-the-road, Christmas story, and gosh was I surprised when I discovered I was reading a second-chance life story. Stella, our MC, has just been released from prison, and is trying to figure out how to live her life again after four years away. Don’t get me wrong, the story was still sweet — just much more emotional than I was expecting!! I do feel like the ending was a bit rushed though.

what i'm reading

The City of Zirdai by Maria V SnyderTechnically I’m still reading:

  • The City of Zirdia by Maria V. Snyder 🗒
  • The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson 🗒
  • The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater 🎧

But, I only listened to a chapter of The Scorpio Races during this week while I was away — because, as above, I left all my books at home!! However, I am home today (as you can probably tell from blog spam) so I am aiming to finish as least one of these soon!!

what's up next

Honestly I just need to finish one of the above this year. I will worry about 2022 plans when 2022 starts!! Which admittedly, is in three days.

What are you currently reading??

until next time, happy reading! Meeghan xo

Mmm there are certain chapters that I love, that follow a certain character. But there are other chapters more about explaining the AI’s and some history of the world, which I like less haha

Let's chat!
