WWW Wednesday — 28 February 2024

Hello friends!! Welcome to this week’s WWW Wednesday — 28 February 2024!!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words, where you answer the three following questions:

  • What did you recently finish?

  • What are you currently reading?

  • And, what do you think you’ll read next?

Let’s see what I have been reading… (All images will link to Goodreads if you click on them. Potentially.)

what i finished

I think this week has officially killed my ‘older-brother’s-best-friend’ rabbit hole that I’ve been down the last couple of weeks. I don’t know what I was looking for here, but I don’t think I’ve found it. Maybe like a fun, sweet romance with some smut. But it certainly was not this twisted, dark, sad romance path I ended up on.

If you know of a happy, fun version of this trope, please let me know. Because at this point I think I’m now broken.

I am now done with the mafia trope. This whole book was red flag after red flag, and now I want to scream.

what i'm reading

I think I’m a bit worried about my Kindle recommendations list. And by ‘worried about’, maybe I actually mean ‘scared of’. Mostly because that was a lot of books that I didn’t really enjoy that much, even though I’m usually ok with angsty romance. But all of that was a lot.

So, I’m returning to a tried and true romance fave. Avery Flynn isn’t my most fave author, but she writes a lot of fun, spicy books that don’t make me think about tall buildings and how sad these characters are. Which is a big plus after my first 1 star of the year.

The Negotiator has been on my Kindle account for… years. Like, actual years. I bought it in 2021. So, it’s probably time that I read it?!

The book is set in Harbour City, which I assume to be a fake American city that has a hockey team. Because I’m pretty sure her hockey team romance books are also set there. In saying that, this could also be a real city. Or set in Canada. I don’t know.

What I do know is that it probably won’t make me cry, so that’s a win.

The Negotiator by Avery Flynn

what's up next

Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood

Honestly, pending on how The Negotiator goes, I might still need some serotonin in the form of super happy books. With happily ever after endings.

I don’t think there’s any point heading back to the February TBR at this stage of the game. We’re at the end of the month now, not that that seems to really count for anything at the moment… I may as well just cut my losses and run.

Maybe I’ll read something from my March TBR?!! LOL. Actually, I’m pretty sure Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood is on it. Surely that screams “I am a serotonin boost in paperback form!” Or I just cut and run completely on romance (entirely possible at this point) and skip straight to some middle-grade March books.

Decisions, decisions…

If you haven’t already read it, Fix Her Up by Tessa Bailey is a nice, sweet older-brother’s-best-friend romance. Not dark at all, with only the usual romance novel levels of angst 😂 I haven’t read any dark romance yet myself so I’m not sure how I feel about it, but I can definitely see how it would become tiring quite quickly! But honestly my Kindle recommendations are also a little crazy, I’ve got no idea where they all come from 😂
