WWW Wednesday — 28 August 2024

Bad news friends. This past week has been so crazy busy with work, and now I’m sick. I worked on Monday, but yesterday I came down with some kind of coughing thing. My GP thinks I have whooping cough as it’s currently doing the rounds here, but we’re waiting for test results to come back. So, we will see what happens.

The secondary part of this bad news is that when I’m sick, I really just can’t read fantasy. Urban fantasy sometimes, or if I’m already like so far into the world building that I won’t learn new things. Or if the names aren’t awful. But it does mean that The Priory of the Orange Tree is going back on the bookshelf for the time being.

I did finish two books though. One on the weekend (my buddy read book!), and then I read a whole book today. Expect a lot of romance and contemporary books coming this way until I’m better.

YES! This was so good — just as good as book 1. I really enjoyed it AND it made me properly laugh out loud.

UMM YES. I didn’t really know I had a mafia phase, but apparently I’m in it now. Also, it’s a proper duology, not different characters!!

Technically I’m not reading anything since I literally just finished Cruel Paradise. But I am 100% going to pick up the sequel, Cruel Promise, as soon as I’ve finished writing this because book 1 ended on a cliffhanger and now I’m dying. (And not just from my coughing fits.)

These books were not on my radar at all until I was doom scrolling through reddit and someone was raving about how amazing they were, so here we are. I’ve kind of tried mafia romances before, but not really got into them, so it’s either the greatest timing ever, or these books are actually great. (FYI, it’s a high spice content over here.)

If I can sort my brain out from all of the sickness, I will try to pick up Priory again, but I make zero promises. Mainly because I’ve just been in bed all day reading and coughing and napping. What a life.

I’m probably going to finish Cruel Promise quickly because I have nothing else to do and my brain isn’t making sentences properly. (Like, I have drafted this post, but may need to reread it before actually hitting publish.)

I’ve finished all of the non-fantasy books on my August TBR so I’m now off the track and out into the wilds…

I did pick up a book, Smut, on Kindle Unlimited the other day, so maybe that’s my next book… I think it’s about uni students who write smutty books together, so that could be interesting?

Or I’ll find some more Nicole Fox books or pick up one of the other books on my Kindle app that I got ages ago. Or I could actually finish the Meghan Quinn series I started?!
