WWW Wednesday – 26 June 2019

Good morning bookworms!

I’m so sorry… I’m going to spam you with extra posts this week while I try valiantly to catch up on all the posts that I had wanted to do share in June!! Please forgive me!!

Welcome to this week’s WWW Wednesday! What is this, you ask? Well, it’s a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. All you have to do is answer the three following questions:

  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

So, without further ado, let’s get started!

I’m actually really proud of myself because I finished more than one book. Unfortunately, this is the majority of the books that I have read this month!!

Key: ? physical book | ? ebook | ? audiobook | ? webcomic

  • The Eyes of Tamburah – Maria V Snyder (thanks Netgalley) ?
  • The Scorpio Races – Maggie Stiefvater ?
  • Parental Guidance – Avery Flynn ?
  • No Fences in Alaska – Glen Sobey (thanks Netgalley) ?
  • Save Me – Big Hit Entertainment and LICO ?

I am slowly making this pile less, and I actually updated my Goodreads so I could see how far through I am on some of these. More accountability!!

Key: ? physical book | ? ebook | ? audiobook | ? webcomic

  • StepSister – Jennifer Donnelly (thanks Hotkey) ? – 22%
  • DEV1AT3 – Jay Kristoff (thanks Jay) ? – 32%
  • Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman ? – 2%
  • The Falconer – Elizabeth May ? – 7%
  • Ace of Shades – Amanda Foody ? – 11%
  • Stormdancer – Jay Kristoff ? – 21%

I’m still valiantly playing catch up, but the list is getting smaller!! Huzzah!! (Mostly because I’ve removed all the non-review books from it. ??)

I do have a question though: I’ve been sent a copy of The Bride Test… do I need to have read The Kiss Quotient before I read this?

Key: ? physical book | ? ebook | ? audiobook | ? webcomic

  • We Are Blood and Thunder – Kesia Lupo (thanks Bloomsbury) ?
  • The Gamer’s Guide to Getting the Girl – Kristine Scarrow (thanks Netgalley) ?
  • The Bride Test – Helen Hoang (thanks Allen & Unwin) ?

Ooh The Falconer looks good. Always wanted to read that, but never did. Fae hunting in Scotland sounds pretty good! Also Deviat3- I’ve been kinda mulling that series. I’ve only read the Illuminae series but not any actual solo Kristoff- I might take the plunge w’/ those.

I would definitely read LIFEL1K3 before Nevernight. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s YA, or if I’m just not a dystopian reader, but I felt like LIFEL1K3 was a let down after Nevernight…

Ohh the gamer’s guide to getting the girl sounds hilarious.. I wanna read that xD
I just finished the 5th tome of my Quebec french serie that I’ve been rereading to FINALLY start the last one hah – and i’m currently reading a Netgalley’s called please send help. No idea what imma start next? hahah depend on my mood..
oh my god you are reading so many things at once ?! How ?! (i’m kinda tempted to start something else tbh … )

Ummm…. it was an accident!! And then it spiraled. But mostly because I was reading a book, but then I lost interest and started something else. And then it happened a couple more times. But I am determined to finish the books!! It’s not that they are bad books… they just weren’t right for me at that time!!

Whoa, that’s a lot on your plate!! (she says as she tries to juggle 5 books at once) Can’t wait to read your thoughts on Stepsisters!
I’m reading Contagion by Erin bowman right now! And my copy of Wicked Fox came the other day and I’m super tempted to drop everything and just focus on that, but I have two ARCs I need to read and review by next week, so it’s gonna be on the backburner for now. *sad face*

Oh I totally know the ‘sad face’ feeling. I got the Curse Workers by Holly Black and it’s all I can do to just read ARCs at the moment so I can catch up!!

I contacted local publishers here in Australia, so I have contacts at our Bloomsbury and Allen and Unwin offices. I put a lot of detail on my stats on my Netgalley account. It’s funny actually. I deleted my entire Netgalley account because the first time I made it I was all “I love books and I write reviews” and sort of just wrote about that and was denied everything I requested. So, after deleting and rewriting it all with the stats info I requested the same books, and was accepted for all of them, except one.
Netgalley publishers want to see what your audience reach is, and even though I didn’t think mine was big enough (1100 on instagram and 500 on the blog) they thought that was enough and now I get most of the books I review. I do update my stats every month as well.
          I hope that helps!!

Oh thats great! thank you so much! because im always denied for review requests and im like… how does everyone else do it, am I doing something wrong? ? so by stats do you mean followers and the average views per month or the views you got that month? 🙂

Yes! That’s it. This is what I have on my account:
Meeghan Reads is a blog dedicated to book reviews, challenges and tags, regular wrap ups, book hauls, discussion posts and an occasional recipe.
I review a lot of YA, NA and middle grade books, primarily fantasy, contemporary and science-fiction. I do read some historical fantasy as well.
My goal is to share books I love with my followers.
My blog (https://meeghanreads.com) currently has 500 followers. I originally started this in 2016, but have been focused on building followers and posting daily since the start of 2019. Since then I have added over 375 followers, and had over 1,500 unique views each month and post on average 29 times per month.
April 2019 was a record high month with over 2300 unique views, and May 2019 had a record high unique visitors at 1105.
I repost my reviews from the blog to my Goodreads account (https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/38908296-meeghan). I currently have almost 200 friends, and am a Goodreads librarian as well.
I discuss books on my Instagram account (www.instagram.com/meeghanreads) which has 1125 followers.
I am a member of several discord channels that discuss and promote books within blogging circles.
