WWW Wednesday — 25 December 2024
After shouting last week about how fun summer holiadys are, and that I finished three books, this week turned into pure chaos. You see, I wasn’t planning to host Christmas this year — we were going to my mum’s. Until suddenly I’m hosting Christmas. It’s only for three of us, but hosting is hosting. Plus we’ve had a nephew sleepover to see Christmas lights on Friday, and then fun babysitting activities on Saturday. Only children want to go to the park when it’s 35°C outside (95°F). And a bigger family Christmas lunch (not hosted by me) on Sunday. So, between cleaning and prepping, babysitting and family time, I got not a lot of reading done this week.

OK, I’ve now read two Lana Ferguson books this year. I thought maybe the awkward feeling I got in the first one was because it featured knotting. (K)Not so. Apparently I just feel awkward when I read her smut scenes in general.
The entire premise of the FMC being a former Only Fans content creator was barely even a thing (except in her head), so the synopsis was kind of misleading. And there were a heap of other plot points that just never got resolved. So… it was, fine? Like, just ok.
Anyway, I read a 2023 debut book so that’s what matters.
I started reading Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne because I thought it would be a good filter book before starting a romantasy series. And it’s one of the book club picks. Maybe I just didn’t read the synopsis very well or something.
I did go in thinking this would be a fantasy mystery. Maybe it was the cosy name. Maybe it was the art style. Who knows.
Anyway, it’s not a mystery. (I don’t think?) It’s the longest non-plot fantasy book I’ve ever read. But it’s still good? Like, the characters are both morons who love each other but can’t understand why the other one loves her. But also nothing has happened. In 250 pages. I know this is a series, but I didn’t know the first book was all character meeting and tense maybe-something-will-happen-oh-no-its-fine.
I am somewhat enjoying it, but also some plot points in a cosy book doesn’t make it non-cosy.
I literally need to read like 5 more books to finish my Beat the Backlist Binge card. So, my plan is to finish the two book club books (Can’t Spell Treason without Tea, and then Hooked), and smash through the other 5 books. LOL.
My only issue with this will be that we have family stuff today (because it’s Christmas). Then more things on Boxing Day and the 27th (including a nephew’s birthday).
Plus I got new video games and a controller for my PC for Christmas. And there’s the Steam sale on from tomorrow too…
So, I’d like to say I’ll absolutely finish 7 books in the next week, but I don’t think it will happen.
