WWW Wednesday — 24 July 2024

Now, due to recent events, I might not be reading as much as I normally would. In fact, it’s entirely possible that I’ve just thrown myself into work as a distraction. Which has its pros, as well as its cons. But that’s ok. We all deal with things in our own way. It is one of my buddy reads for the month though, so *check* for that.

My way just might include purchasing more books than reading books… But, I did read a book this week. In fact, I smashed through it because it was just so damn good. Honestly, I am absolutely love this new type of cosy, low stakes, high banter, girl-boss, historical / romance / fantasy / comedy type of book. Bring them all on. I will take every single one.

Considering making this a 5-star read, but wow. It was genuinely laugh out loud funny and an utter delight to read. The characters were a cast of the best tropes in historical fiction and the literary references were perfect.

I am still reading The Priory of the Orange Tree, but it’s very slow going.

However, I also started the Au Pair Affair by Tessa Bailey as it came out last week. It’s the second book in the Big Shots series.

Normally I would smash through this type of book. Tessa Bailey writes great brain candy. I read book one in less than 24 hours.

However, there is something about this one, and I am about 40% through, that is bringing up my ick factor. Which is super annoying because I thought that I would love it. Like, I am not enjoying this book and, while I will likely persevere, I certainly won’t be smashing through it as per usual.

This is not the fun spicy romp that I was expecting.

Honestly, I just don’t know what I want to read next. I do need to continue with Priory, but The Au Pair Affair is maybe turning me off romance for a bit… Which isn’t a bad thing. I need to get some more fantasy under my belt. Finish some series, etc. etc.
