WWW Wednesday — 17 April 2024

Hello friends!! Welcome to this week’s WWW Wednesday — 17 April 2024!!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words, where you answer the three following questions:

  • What did you recently finish?

  • What are you currently reading?

  • And, what do you think you’ll read next?

Let’s see what I have been reading… (All images will link to Goodreads if you click on them. Potentially.)

what i finished

I finished another 3 books this week, which includes checking off my very first 24 in 24 book. I actually thought I had already done this, but apparently I have only STARTED 24 in 24 books… hahaha… oops?!

The travesty of finishing all of these books is that all of them were just average. And kind of depressing. I don’t think I had a happy thought while reading any of them?! Maybe the Hogle book was fine, but I was so saddened by the other two that it swayed me. Or, I just had higher expectations after loving You Deserve Each Other and Twice Shy so much.

So, despite finishing books, this was a sad reading week.

Heartless Sky by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti
I was Born for This by Alice Oseman
Old Flames and New Fortunes by Sarah Hogle

Heartless sky?? More like heartless authors. I might be done with this series ☹️

I now remember all the reviews and why I didn’t read this after buying it…

Title: Old Flames and New Fortunes
Author: Sarah Hogle
Series: N/A
Released: 23 Apr 2023
Read: Apr 2024
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Super underwhelming for a Hogle book. It was fine. I guess. But I expected more.

what i'm reading

This block here is starting to feel a bit like a list of ‘dumb things I keep doing’. For example, after finishing two books that have been on here for weeks (yaaay!!), I don’t move on to another. Nor do I start a book I am meant to be reading this month. Nooooooo. I just start some random book on my TBR because it looks pretty.

I mean, Her Majesty’s Royal Coven DOES have an eye-catchingly bright cover. But I was supposed to read other things first…

Her Majesty's Royal Coven by Juno Dawson
The Prisoner's Throne by Holly Black
Rivals by Katharine McGee
The Forest Grimm by Kathryn Purdie
A Duet with the Siren Duke by Elise Kova

what's up next

OK, so last week I said that I’d probably start Sorrow and Starlight, which is like book 637 in the Zodiac Academy series. The small issue with this is that I finished Heartless Sky and the ending of it was so depressing that I don’t actually know if I even want to finish the whole series. So, excuse me Ms Valenti and Ms Peckham, just STOP making everything 800 times more harder than it has to be. The plotlines are mean enough, ok? You probs don’t have to literally torture, imprison or kill off every character.

I am going to keep Strange the Dreamer on here because I really do need to start it soon. You know, since it’s the Bookish Chaos Discord group book club buddy read of the month. And I’m kind of on a roll with these…

I also might read I Think He Knows by Katie Bailey because after all of the depressing books lately (either disappointing or just plain mean plotlines) I need something happy. Plus it’s another 24 in 24 challenge book!!

What are you currently reading?

until next time, happy reading! Meeghan xo

Happy reading, Meeghan! I’m curious about that Elise Kova series. I read one YA book from her before and thought it was fine. When I came back from my extremely long hiatus, I found that everyone was talking about her books already lol. Strang the Dreamer’s really good as well (coming from someone who doesn’t enjoy purple prose)!

The Married to Magic series started off strong. I really enjoyed the first two books. The vampire one was also good. I just can’t get into this one?! But I’m trying again this month by putting it on my TBR. I’ve got a couple of books in the Air Awakens series, but I’ve never read them. Are they the ones you were referring to? (Also, so sorry, your comment got caught in my spam filter and have only just rescued it!!)
