Hello bookworms!! Welcome to WWW Wednesday – 16 September 2020!!
This is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words, where you answer the three following questions:
- What did you recently finish?
- What are you currently reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
You know… this may be a weekly meme, but I seem to doing it on a fortnightly basis, which feels weird on so many levels. BUT SOON I will catch up life and whatnot, so we might go back to a more regular posting schedule, and wouldn’t that be nice for everyone?! (Also, I think I’ve forgotten how to write book reviews because it has been SO LONG.)

OMG. I thought I hadn’t finished any books this week, but it’s ok. STAND DOWN. I finished one book. #winning
I LOVED THIS. Not as much as I loved Chloe Brown (but that was more because I identified with having a bazillion invisible diseases, and I am very much NOT an academic), but this book also got me right in the feels so much. Like, this entire family is adorable. Also, I would 100% date Dani. Just saying.
Things I loved:
✅ Friends to lovers
✅ Fake dating
Honestly this book is just so sweet. Highly recommend.

Yes, hi, hello there. My name is Meeghan, and I am trash for this series. God I hope so much that McGee writes another book in this series, because while I acknowledge that it is not literary gold, or even silver, it has brought me so much joy. And is reading really worth it if we’re not enjoying our books?!
I know this book has copped some flak, but I didn’t feel like the characters changed at all. If anything, I felt like they grew. And I have half drafted a review (yes, I know. Actual review copies get nothing. Books I am trash for get them) where I talk about this a lot.

I have also been slowly making my way through that giant pile of graphic novels that I got last month. And yes, slowly is the word I will be using for it. In saying that, I don’t know how I feel about this instalment of the Rat Queens story. It felt like the art changed about three times (yes, I know there is controversy surrounding the artists in this series). And the storyline felt a bit mish-mash as well. I’m hoping that it picks up again in Volume 4 otherwise I’m probably going to be very annoyed that I bulk purchased them. Also, Hannah is my favourite, so I feel even more betrayed. (She’s not dead, I’m just not enjoying her personal story-arc.)
Demons by Kurtis J. Wiebe

NOTHING ON MY TBR is the short answer. Because why the hell would I do that??
This is the second book in the Winternight trilogy, and I haven’t really gotten started with it because I was expecting more Vasya, but instead it’s been Olga so far. Which is FINE, but I want more of Vasya and Morozko!! I might actually remove this one from my list if I don’t make any more progress this week. I haven’t read any of it in the last month, and I will likely have to reread what I have read when I go back to it, because it’s completely gone from my head. Which is unfortunate.
The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden

I have read about 2 pages of this because if I didn’t start it, then my friend Lucie (@whatluciesreading on Instagram) might have stabbed me. (Except she’s in lockdown so she can’t actually get to me right now… silver lining benefits!!) I can’t really tell you much about this except it has doughnuts on the cover and is an #ownvoices Autism story, and a debut novel from an Australian author. And Lucie really loved it.
The same goes for this one. It’s just kind of sitting on my bedside table collecting dust at the moment.

And of course, this is all happening (the non-reading of the above books), because Soulbound 5 came out, and I haven’t read anything else since. AND IT’S NOT EVEN THE LAST ONE. Gosh, I am so trash for this series. But, if you’re into like a Percy Jackson / Magnus Chase upgrade and would read a series with multiple mythology gods, that’s also a bit fantasy / crime fighting, AND has queer characters (plus vampires, werewolves and witches), this IS the series you have been looking for. I only started it this year (I think Birdie was talking about it), and now I am low-key obsessed.

*cough* I am not changing a thing in this section from last time, which is actually a shame. Except, I am also ADDING a new review book that I got. Books that I have put next to my bed this week include Evernight by Claudia Gray (yes, I want some vampire stories that aren’t Twilight related); The Iron King by Julie Kagawa; and I pulled The Dark Tide by Alicia Jasinska out again (I might actually finish it this time…?). On top of all that I need to start the next book in the Shadowhunters reread, so City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare will be my next audiobook. PLUS, I have to read Kingdom of Sea and Stone by Mara Rutherford (⏰), which is the sequel to Crown of Coral and Pearl.
What are you currently reading??
