WWW Wednesday — 15 May 2024

Hello friends!! Welcome to this week’s WWW Wednesday — 15 May 2024!!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words, where you answer the three following questions:

  • What did you recently finish?

  • What are you currently reading?

  • And, what do you think you’ll read next?

Let’s see what I have been reading… (All images will link to Goodreads if you click on them. Potentially.)

what i finished

Ahhhh… so I know last week I was all “let’s get the ‘currently reading’ pile down!!” But then I read Rhapsodic, and I fell head-first into the world of the Bargainer. And I did not re-emerge. I’m not sorry. I can only exclaim that I’m sad it took me this long to read this series.

Also I read the first book in The Romance Revelry Society’s book club… and it was a wild ride, my friends. I don’t recommend unless you have no limits when it comes to spiciness. Like, if you’re not really after a plot, ok with really unnecessary swearing, total incongruence with old-world-fantasy type sentence structure and modern slang, characters that are not a great deal better than two-dimensional, and are ok with… fantasy bestiality, this could be your next fave read. However, it was very short (at 267 pages), so there are some saving graces. It is unlikely I will continue this series.

A Strange Hymn by Laura Thalassa

The premise of this story is really interesting, and since it was published so long ago, I can’t help but to compare it to other fae romantasy books. It stacks up well!!

THIS is how you write a prequel from the MMC’s POV. A thousand times better than Midnight Sun. I might just be biased because I’m enjoying this though…

… what in the world did I just read?? This is like Ice Planet Barbarians, but with dragons. But also, so much worse.

what i'm reading

I made some progress this week with The Prisoner’s Throne, but alas, nothing else on this list moved at all this week… However, I didn’t add to it, so that’s at least something!!

Her Majesty's Royal Coven by Juno Dawson
The Prisoner's Throne by Holly Black
Rivals by Katharine McGee
The Forest Grimm by Kathryn Purdie
A Duet with the Siren Duke by Elise Kova

what's up next

OK, I really want to finish The Bargainer series, so Dark Harmony is absolutely on my TBR for next week. In fact, I may start it tonight…

Then, I need to go back to hitting that May 2024 TBR. Which means, either finishing something on the list above, or going to my other book club read for this month: The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones.

To be honest, I’ll probably pick up The Bone Houses. But mostly because Emily Lloyd-Jones is one of those authors who has been recommended to me about 800 times, and I’m certain that I will lover books. I’ve been told they have a slight Slavic-folklore influence to them, and we all know that’s my jam.

Lloyd-Jones is also one of those authors who I seem to just collect books by, but haven’t actually read anything by them… yet. In fact, of her eight published books, I own copies of all of the stand alones, which is three books: The Bone Houses, The Hearts We Sold, and The Drowned Woods. So, picking up one of them should be easy!! Right?!
