Would You Rather tag

Hello bookworms!! Welcome to the Would You Rather tag!!

This is me attempting to catch up on tags… from the 53 that I currently have stockpiled in my notes… oh please help me.

Anyway!! Today’s tag comes from the gorgeous Laura @ The Books Corps, so thank you for thinking of me, Laura!!

So, let’s get started!!

Would You Rather tag

Rules

  • Answer the questions given to you by your nominator.
  • Make up your own questions and tag others.
  • Sounds easy, right? Well, let’s see…!

Would you rather only read physical books for the rest of your life or only audiobooks?

I am definitely a physical book girl, but that’s purely because I lack the concentration required for audiobooks unless I’m doing something like a puzzle! Also, what would I do with all of my physical books if I was to convert completely to audio?!! … Although, audio does take up far less space. But it doesn’t smell as nice either. Ok, I’m sticking with physical!!

Would you rather know all the spoilers before you start a book or never read the last chapter?

If the last chapter is an epilogue, I could probably give that up. I hate spoilers. They make me not want to read a book. But if the last chapter is where everything is settled, then that would probably make me madder…?

Would you rather be stuck on a very long train/plane ride with a book you hate or no book at all?

These questions are mean!! What is the lesser of two evils?? Probably a book I’d hate. Because then if I don’t want to read at all I could nap or hope for good movies!!

Clip from the tv series Modern Family where one couple is putting on eye sleep masks and settle back into their chairs to take a nap.

Would you rather read a book with a really bad ending or a book where your favourite character is killed off?

This one is surprisingly easy. Kill off the characters. I wrote a whole post about why killing off main characters is good, so why would I be adverse to killing off my fave?!

Would you rather love a book everyone hates or hate a book everyone loves?

I’ve done both of these, but probably love a book everyone else hates. That way I can try and sell it to other people. And if worse comes to worst and I can’t convince anyone else to like it, then at least I have a book that I enjoyed!!

Would you rather read books by your favourite author but they’re all really bad, or read books by an author you hate but they’re all really good?

Would my favourite author stay my favourite author if all their books were bad? Probably not. Would my next new fave author start writing bad books? That would be bad. I’d feel cursed. I guess it depends on why I hate the author. If it’s because they’re racist or transphobic or something else, then I wouldn’t read their books on principle. If it’s just because I didn’t like their answers in an interview or something, then I would probably read their good book. I wouldn’t want to cure Maggie Stiefvater.

Would you rather only ever read contemporary books for the rest of your life or fantasy?

Look. My answer is always going to be fantasy. I love fantasy, and for my entire life I have seen myself as a fantasy reader. However, this year has been a time, and I haven’t wanted to read about death and destruction, so I’ve been a very heavy contemporary reader this year. I’ve even needed to happiness of romance to get me through. But I would still pick fantasy.

A clip from the tv series The Witcher, where Geralt, a witch with long white hair, golden eyes and a huge sword strapped to his back, is standing with the wind blowing in his hair.

Would you rather own a signed edition or a first edition?

I own both, and to be honest, I’d probably pick first editions. Especially if the author is still alive (because then I can cheat and have it signed anyway!!).

Would you rather never be able to borrow a book from the library again or never reread your favourite book?

I would rather never be able to borrow from the library. I am in a very privileged position in that I can now afford to buy whatever books I want. And I do. I haven’t even joined the library since moving back to Canberra.

Would you rather spend the day in your favourite fictional world but never meet your favourite character, or spend the day as the villain and try to attack/kill that favourite character?

I’d rather spend the day in the world not meet my fave character. To be honest, half of my fave fictional worlds, I’d be too busy trying to stay alive so it would probably be hard to squeeze in a visit anyway!!

This is such a great tag and I agree with pretty much everything you’ve said! I would 100% choose fantasy and love a book that everyone hates. I mean, I already like books that people don’t like, so not much of a chance!

  • thebookcorps

Love your answers! Haha I know, my questions are so mean! And lol you mentioned Maggie Stiefvater for the “bad author, good book” question, and that’s EXACTLY who I was thinking about ?

    • meeghan

Thank you!! Can I recommend something? The only way I can listen to audiobooks and actually listen is to do something like a puzzle or sudoku, where your brain is distracted from having thoughts, but you aren’t “reading” something. I’ve also found drawing or craft stuff is good for audiobooks!!

  • evelynreads1

Oh no.. some of these choices are so hard.. I will do my best to make the decisions ahah! Thanks for the tag!

Are you back in Aus? Still in South Africa?? I could send you a care package with puzzles in it?!!

        • dbsguidetothegalaxy

You’re so sweet!! No, still in South Africa ??Probably will only go back next year for my cousins’ wedding (well, more so the reception/ceremony thing as they had a private ceremony for the legality whatnot). I miss Melbourne and my family over there, though!

        • meeghan

DM me your address on insta if you like and I’ll send a care package!! Also, let me know what sweets / snacks you miss the most. It’ll just be lighter if it’s going overseas!! xx

  • Meaghan @ Hail and Well Read

HERE I AM A MONTH LATE (*shakes fist at Jetpack pingback system*)

Anyways, these questions are gonna KICK MY BUTT, thank you for tagging me!! Also, I’ll give you a sneak peek: I’m 100% with you on the first question. I don’t have the brain space for paying attention to audiobooks either, and physical books do smell so nice. Probably the easiest question of the bunch!

Let's chat!
