Top 5… worst book covers

Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is ‘worst book covers’, which sounds hard! I mean, don’t we all cover buy? If there’s a nicer cover from another region I usually buy that one instead!! Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the super lovely Shanah at the Bionic Bookworm. You can make with the clickies here, and join in for Top 5 Tuesday by checking out all the amazing topics we have coming up!

Ummm, ok. I mean, I try not to buy ugly book covers and I always do this challenge on books I either own or have read, but let’s do this anyway!

Cruel Prince OC.jpg

This is the OwlCrate exclusive cover for The Cruel Prince. Now, I LOVE this book, but I don’t love this cover. I don’t know why, but I’m 99% sure that it’s because I love the original white and black covers so much more. Also, this was just so different that I didn’t feel like it fit with the others (and likely won’t fit with the sequels). And the crown looks nothing like the one described in the book!!

Take Three Girls.jpg

Take Three Girls arrived in a The YA Chronicles box at some stage in the last 18 months (no, I can’t remember when and I also can’t be bothered to look it up). Because I am a cover-judger, and a mood reader to boot, I have not even read the back of this book. However, I didn’t throw it out when I did my book purge, so there may still be hope for this one. But the cover has way too much going on, and not in a fun way. It’s just too busy for me.

Wild Beauty.jpg

Wild Beauty (exclusive edition) also came in an OwlCrate box sometime in 2017, and I only read the blurb for it two days ago when I was looking for books to read for the OWLs read-a-thon. I am not a floral person. I don’t own any clothes with floral prints. I don’t buy flowers for my house. My instagram feed is very flower-free (with the exception of some daisies someone else bought for me ages ago). I have succulents, but that’s as close as I get! I’m not very girly like that… So, this cover isn’t really for me (nor is the book by the sounds of the blurb).

Eve of Man

Eve of Man came in (surprise!) a book box! I think it was the last Fanciful Box. Anyway, based on the cover, I would never in a million years ever have picked this up. I haven’t read the blurb, I’m not super interested. It just seems so … dark … and … blegh. It also annoyed me that nearly everything else that came in this box had the branding of the book on it.

Management Style.jpg

The Management Style of the Supreme Beings by Tom Holt is the one book on here that I actually bought myself. And the reason I did so, is because I have loved the last couple of books that he has published. They had cute covers too. However, I checked every book seller in the world (not really, just Dymocks, The Book Depository, Goodreads and Amazon) and they all showed the same cover. So I bought it. But I’ve only read the first 10 pages. They need to release it in the same style as The Outsorcerer’s Apprentice! It’s not bad… it just could be better!

So basically, I don’t tend to like exclusive covers, too many colours, not enough colours, and non-matching covers. Fickle. I am fickle.

Happy reading ?
