Top 5 series I will start in 2024

Hello friends!! Welcome to Top 5 Tuesday!! This week’s topic is top 5 series I will start in 2024!! Because what I really need in the world is to start more series that I don’t have time (or capacity) to finish. *Geez… who picks these bloody titles?? Oh right, it’s me…*

In case you’re new around here, this is another post we hadn’t really been doing annually, but I guess we are now. Why? Because I like to torture myself…? I swear this isn’t sadomasochism. Not the fun kind, anyway.

So, these are the posts for this topic I did in 2023 and in 2021.

Also, because I like make everything a challenge (and therefore more difficult for myself), I’m not going to repeat any of the series in the previous years. Of which, I have started exactly 0 out of 9 series (because I doubled up once). So, you know I will definitely read these ones.

If you missed the January-March 2024 topics, they are out now!! Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted (albeit very terribly) here @ Meeghan reads.

So, let’s look at another bunch of books that I hope to read in 2024…

top 5 series I will start in 2024

The Kyoshi Novels — F. C. Yee

The Rise of Kyoshi by F. C. Yee

F. C. Yee’s The Rise of Kyoshi delves into the story of Kyoshi, the Earth Kingdom-born Avatar.

The longest-living Avatar in this beloved world’s history, Kyoshi established the brave and respected Kyoshi Warriors, but also founded the secretive Dai Li, which led to the corruption, decline, and fall of her own nation.

The first of two novels based on Kyoshi, The Rise of Kyoshi maps her journey from a girl of humble origins to the merciless pursuer of justice who is still feared and admired centuries after she became the Avatar.

Note: Yes, I have both novels in this series.

Spellslinger — Sebastien de Castell

There are three things that earn you a man’s name among the Jan’Tep. The first is to demonstrate the strength to defend your family. The second is to prove you can perform the high magic that defines our people. The third is simply to reach the age of sixteen. I was a few weeks shy of my birthday when I learned that I wouldn’t be doing any of those things.

Magic is a con game.

Kellen is moments away from facing his first mage’s duel and the start of four trials that will make him a spellcaster. There’s just one problem: his magic is gone. As his sixteenth birthday approaches, Kellen falls back on his cunning in a bid to avoid total disgrace. But when a daring stranger arrives in town, she challenges Kellen to take a different path. Ferius Parfax is one of the mysterious Argosi a traveller who lives by her wits and the three decks of cards she carries. She’s difficult and unpredictable, but she may be Kellen’s only hope…

Note: Yes, I have all six novels in this series.

Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell

Empirium trilogy — Claire Legrand

Furyborn by Claire Legrand

When assassins ambush her best friend, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing herself as one of a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light, and a queen of blood. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven elemental magic trials. If she fails, she will be executed… unless the trials kill her first.

One thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a fairy tale to Eliana Ferracora. A bounty hunter for the Undying Empire, Eliana believes herself untouchable until her mother vanishes. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain and discovers that the evil at the empire’s heart is more terrible than she ever imagined.

As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world and of each other.

Note: Yes, I have all three novels in this series.

The Last Binding — Freya Marske

Young baronet Robin Blyth thought he was taking up a minor governmental post. However, he’s actually been appointed parliamentary liaison to a secret magical society. If it weren’t for this administrative error, he’d never have discovered the incredible magic underlying his world.

Cursed by mysterious attackers and plagued by visions, Robin becomes determined to drag answers from his missing predecessor but he’ll need the help of Edwin Courcey, his hostile magical-society counterpart. Unwillingly thrown together, Robin and Edwin will discover a plot that threatens every magician in the British Isles.

Note: Yes, I have all three books in this series. And it’s a double from my T5T books I will definitely* read in 2024 list.

A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske

These Hollow Vows — Lexi Ryan

These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan

Brie hates the Fae and refuses to have anything to do with them, even if that means starving on the street. But when her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie court to pay a debt, she’ll do whatever it takes to get her back including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court.

Gaining unfettered access to the Seelie court is easier said than done. Brie’s only choice is to pose as a potential bride for Prince Ronan, and she soon finds herself falling for him. Unwilling to let her heart distract her, she accepts help from a band of Unseelie misfits with their own secret agenda. As Brie spends time with their mysterious leader, Finn, she struggles to resist his seductive charm.

Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty. And with her heart.

Note: Yes, I have both novels in this series.
