Top 5 series I want to start

Hello bookworms!! Happy Tuesday!! This week’s Top 5 Tuesday is top 5 series I want to start.

And now we commence the topics where I think I victimised myself. I actually drafted this post at the same time as I drafted my “authors I want to try” post… and I had a LOT of crossover until I separated them up a bit. I also had to skip putting the Spellslinger series on here, because I used it last week… Also, just to ensure that I shame myself a bit more, I own at least one book in ALL of the below series, and in some cases all of them. So I have zero excuses!!

Top 5 series I want to start

The Witchlands – Susan Dennard

The Witchlands #1: Truthwitch by Susan DennardI don’t know about you guys, but I was introduced to Susan Dennard on Twitter when she was doing the Luminaries choose-your-own-adventure. And I was hooked from the very first moment I started reading.

Because I loved it so much, I went out and bought the first book in the Witchland series. Have I already wanted to purchase the rest of the series without even starting this? Absolutely. Have I resisted? Only just – they’re on my wishlist!!

I do really want to start this series this year though. Especially since I’m signed up to the Luminaries emails as well, and I am totally loving the writing.

Falling Kingdoms – Morgan Rhodes

Falling Kingdoms by Morgan RhodesThis is a series that has been recommended to me multiple times, but in particular by one of my work friends who I trust so much. I have also bought only the first book in this series, which pains me. But again, it’s a new author and I need to try and not impulse purchase an entire series.

To be honest, I don’t really know that much about this series. It’s fantasy and it’s YA and there are six books. Apparently the magic system is really cool. Considering all the books are about 4 stars on Goodreads, I’m actually pretty excited for this.

Caraval – Stephanie Garber

Caraval by Stephanie GarberDo I have this entire trilogy sitting on my shelf? Yes. Does one of my friends routinely yell at me to read this? Yes. Have I even looked at it yet? No. I mean, I’ve LOOKED at it. But apart from buying it, and putting it on my shelves, I haven’t really even thought about it.

I know the characters are in a lot of ships… And one of them is called Jacks. And it’s circus themed. But that’s pretty much everything I know about it!! But yes, this is one of those series that I literally own every book and have never started.

Starfell – Dominique Valente

Starfell #1 Willow Moss and the Lost Day by Dominique ValenteThe Willow Moss series is one that I am absolutely kicking myself to hurry up and read… but every time I am looking for something new I keep forgetting about it. To be fair, I haven’t really been into fantasy in the last year. Although middle grade tends to be exempt from this anyway.

Willow Moss is the story of a girl who has magical powers and has to save the world. But, according to the blurb, is “quite unremarkable”. It’s definitely along the lines of those ‘the prophesied one’, and I’m so here for that. It’s one of my favourite tropes ever.

The Lumatere Chronicles – Melina Marchetta

The Lumatere Chronicles #1: Finnikin of the Rock by Melina MarchettaMelina Marchetta is one of my favourite contemporary authors. Looking for Alibrandi was one of my absolute staple rereads when I was in high school, and I think I read it about twice per year from Year 7 to Year 12. I’ve read almost all of her contemporary novels, but I’ve never started this series.

I think it’s mostly because I always worry when an author changes genre.  Marchetta has gone back to contemporary since writing this, and I believe hasn’t ventured here again. However, I know so many people who love this trilogy, which is pretty great recommendation.
