Top 5… sequels I need to get to
Good morning bookworms!
Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is ‘sequels I need to get to’. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the super lovely Shanah over at the Bionic Bookworm. You can visit her here, and join in for Top 5 Tuesday by checking out all the amazing topics we have coming up!
My original thought when I saw this topic was ‘OMG – this post could go on for DAYS…’, but really, I’m a binge reader. If I want to read a book, then I:
- tend to wait until all the books are out because I hate cliffhangers
- normally buy the entire series before starting to read the first book (see hatred of cliffhangers), then
- binge read the entire series in one go.
I mean, I read the entire All For the Game trilogy (aka The Foxhole Court, etc.) in 48 hours. I own more completed series, completely unread, than I think I have currently reading. Here are just a few of the series that I haven’t started, but I own all the books to:
- Grishaverse
- Red Rising
- Spellslinger
- Falconer
- Lumatere Chronicles
- Secrets of the Tally
- Starbound trilogy
- Renegades
- Lotus War trilogy
- Fallen Isles
- Warcross
- Dark Artifices
- Unearthed
- Shades of Magic
- Kingkiller Chronicle
- Strange the Dreamer
- Firebird trilogy
- Miss Peregrine
As I said, this is just a few… (you can see MORE on my Beat the Backlist list). Feel free to shout at me in the comments which ones I should read next.
However, these are FIVE series where I have the next book, I just need to read it!
Clariel (The Old Kingdom series) by Garth Nix. This one is actually really bad, because I have read the book that comes after Clariel, so I kind of know how it ends. In my defence, the original trilogy had ended, this one was a prequel set hundreds of years ahead (boring), and then Goldenhand was set after the original trilogy. Buuuuut, it does mention characters from Clariel, so the book has been shelved for the time being. (Sorry Nix, you’re still one of my heroes.)
The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy (Montague Siblings) by Mackenzi Lee. To be fair, I only finished reading this one last week, so I will read this one (and soon).
The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) by Rick Riordan. I have this series, and in a box set, on my shelves. I read the first one last year when I needed to smash books out for my OWLs and was looking for a quick read. I even read a novella that sits about 1.5 on the Percy timeline. (Something, something Chariot?) I will probably read these, but I don’t feel like it’ll be life or death if I don’t.
The Girl with the Whispering Shadow (The Crowns of Croswald) by D. E. Night was probably my fave middle grade book I read last year. I bought it for my niece and I pre-ordered this when it was available. I’ve had it sitting on my shelf for about three months. I keep meaning to read it… but it just hasn’t happened yet.
War Storm (Red Queen series) by Victoria Aveyard. I really disliked King’s Cage. I gave it the equivalent of 2.5 stars. This was actually quite devastating to me because I loved Red Queen and Glass Sword. But, because I didn’t like the third book, I just haven’t read this one yet. Which I hate. I do want to finish this series, but I feel like I need confirmation that it’s not a bad ending, and I just haven’t heard anything great about it. Can someone please tell me if it’s worth it?
Until next time, happy reading ??

I’m with you on War Storm. I struggled to get through King’s Cage but I want to know how the series ends. It is such a big book though and I’m not sure I’m up for it!

if you want someone to make completing the Percy Jackson series (plural, once you start you have to read them all: PJO, HOO, Apollo, and preferably all the crossovers and guides too ?) feel like life or death, all you had to do was ask … I’m only kind of joking, I LIVED for these books at one point in my life. I actually thought Lady’s Guide was even better than Gentleman’s Guide, and hey, I haven’t even read Glass Sword yet (…. or maybe I have and it was King’s Cage that I stopped at? honestly I don’t remember anymore) so at least you’re doing better than me, for what it’s worth!

Nawww, thanks love!! If you’re insisting, then I had definitely better read all of the Riordan!!

I’m not familiar enough with wp to know if I can put gifs in comments or how, so just imagine the Dark Kermit “do it” meme here ?

I always want to binge read whole series, bu tI always fail.. I either already start reading before the whole series is out, since I’m to impatient or I get distracted by other books.. I should try and binge read more haha

Binge reading is amazing!!! (So long as you can stay away from spoilers!!)

I read The Lightning Thief and haven’t continued on yet, either! For me, it was also that the OWLs got in the way. Hopefully I’ll get to it soon because I have a million Riordan books to catch up on!

Haven’t read any of these, but I love binge-reading too! I put off reading books until all the books are out, and there’s only been one instance (ok, maybe more than one) in which I read the first two books before the third was out and I was so mad! ? Anyway, I hope you enjoy and get to these sequels soon!

Thanks love!! I did a count a couple of months ago, and I’m “currently reading” about 35 series in that I’m waiting for the next book in the series to be out. It’s soul destroying and cliffhangers are EVIL. I definitely prefer to binge read!!

Hatred of cliffhangers, yep that’s me too! Great post ?
