Top 5 drinks for reading

Hello bookworms!! Welcome to Top 5 Tuesday!! This week’s topic is top 5 drinks for reading.

Last week I was hungry… This week I am thirsty. Seriously, I’m so parched!! *cough* *flails dramatically* I am the person who is likely to forget how drinking works though, so I have to be VERY careful when reading. Alas, you cannot brush liquid off like a crumb. I learned this the hard way…

If you missed the April-June 2022 topics, they are out now! Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted here @ Meeghan reads.

Water

Oh look. An actual photo of my water glass. SPILLING EVERYWHERE. I’d just like to point out that this is highly common. Which is why water SHOULD be my drink of choice 100% of the time. But alas, it’s probably not even my drink of choice 50% of the time.

I do drink water while I read though. I have learned to drink it from a drink bottle though. Not only because I spill it, but because my cats will just drink from any water glass they find lying around. So it’s safer to drink water from a bottle they can’t access in my house.

Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa

OK, so we’re going back to the snack boxes that my friend in the US (Erin) sends me that I talked about last week. Because we don’t have Trader Joe’s in Australia. We also don’t really have hot cocoa. Or if we do, we call if hot chocolate. (Is it the same thing??)

Anyway, two Christmas’ ago, Erin sent me a tin of this salted caramel hot cocoa. And I near flew to Texas and proposed. Despite already being married.

And last Christmas, the angel sent me TWO TINS. I’m currently trying to ration myself, but we’re just hitting winter here, and it is hard work to not have this every night. Just saying.

Jarritos

Jarritos Mandarin soda

Look, I’d like to say that I don’t mind anytype of soft drinks (pop? soda? whatever you call it). But that would be lies. I am very specific as soft drink is super sweet.

But, I do love Jarritos, which is a Mexican soft drink brand, where the drinks are made with cane sugar, as opposed to sugar syrup.

My favourite flavours are: mandarin, cola, lime, passionfruit, and pineapple. Specifically in that order. They’re not very common over here, and when I find them it’s only ever in the 370mL (12.5 oz) glass bottles. And they aren’t resealable as it’s a pop-cap lid. WHICH MAKES ME SAD.

Milo

In Australia, we have this wonderful chocolate malted milk drink called Milo. There are several ways you can have milo ― with hot milk, with cold milk, sprinkled over ice-cream, mixed into a cheesecake, or in spoonfuls straight from the tin. I believe it’s an acquired taste, like vegemite (based on my sending of this national treasure to Erin who wasn’t entirely convinced it was heaven).

What you can’t tell from the picture I have (lovingly) stolen from the internet, is the RATIO of milo to milk. Or hot water if you’re a heathen who drinks it hot with water instead of milk. Personally, I’m about one quarter milo to three quarters milk. Plus an extra spoon from the tin straight to my mouth while the milo is mixing. So yum.

Tea

I blame my English roots, but I am a tea drinker. In fact, I would say on average that I drink more tea than water every day. Easily. I make a pot of tea (about 4 cups) most mornings, and then I drink another 2-6 cups throughout the day (and evening), depending on how my day is going.

I own four different teapots. I have over 30 different types of tea in my pantry. Like, I have a snack drawer, and I have a tea drawer.

But, my favourite tea (by far) is T2’s Melbourne Breakfast. It’s a mild black tea with vanilla. And it is delicious. I do prefer it with milk, but will drink it black in a pinch. And I keep bags of it at home, at work, at my mum’s, and a travel container in my handbag. You know, JUST IN CASE.

AND, sub-category, bubble tea, aka boba. Preference: Milk tea, 1/2 ice, with pearls.
