Top 5… characters I want as a best friend
Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is ‘characters I want as a best friend’. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the super lovely Shanah over at the Bionic Bookworm. You can visit her here, and join in for Top 5 Tuesday by checking out all the amazing topics we have coming up!

I cannot start this without Karou and Zuze from Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. I love them both so much! I love their sarcasm and witty comments, the way they look out for each other (particularly that rabid fairy Zuze always having Karou’s back). They’re my OTP in BFF format. I would love to be the third wheel in their friendship because I’m pretty sure Zuze is my soulmate and Karou is my spirit animal. (And Lesya Blackbird captures them PERFECTLY!)

My next bookish BFFs would be the Gangsey from Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Boys. Mostly because I want to hang out with Ronan, Blue and Noah (the most sarcastic of the group); but also because I love Welsh mythology (which is what drew me to this series originally), and the magic of ley lines and basically everything in this series. (All credit to Jamie for the below drawing of the gang – it’s perfect!)

I would definitely want to be besties with Mia Corvere, but more than Mia, I actually want to be friends with Mister Kindly from Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. I am totally a cat person, and Mister Kindly appeals to me because of his highly sarcastic nature. I mean, look at him, he’s purrfect!! (I’m starting to see a pattern here with the sarcasm… Also, more kudos to Lesya for this truly epic drawing.)

Fourth on my list is Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Tiffany Aching of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. These three are witches (Granny and Nanny first appearing in Equal Rites, and Tiffany joining the party in The Wee Free Men). Granny and Nanny are definitely old school witches, but from opposite ends of the spectrum. Granny is the head witch – the one you want as your mentor (she’s the original McGonagall), and Nanny is the one who you want to go out drinking with at the end of the day (and I totally want her to teach me The Hedgehog Song). Tiffany is who I want to be besties with – she’s formidable in her own right, and she hangs out with the Nac Mac Feegle.

Finally, I would want to be besties with the Kerenza crew from Amie Kaufman and Jay Krostoff’s Illuminae Files: Kady Grant, Ezra Mason, Hanna Donnelly, Nik Malikov, Ella Malikova, Asha Grant and Rhys Lindstrom. Oh, and AIDAN. (OMG – how could I forget AIDAN?!) These bad-ass peeps would always have your back, no matter what, and they’re basically family after all the stuff they went through.
* My fave drawing of these guys is right at the end of Obsidio, but it would appear that no one has put it on the web yet (that I can find through Google), so please either flip to the back of Obsidio, or read the books if you want to know what they look like! x
