Top 5 books with food on the cover
Hello bookworms!! Welcome to Top 5 Tuesday!! This week’s topic is top 5 books with food on the cover.
Yes, In August we are doing a scavenger type of month, where each week there is a different theme for you to pick covers by. I wanted to pick some topics that everyone can participate in this month, as I’ve noticed that people come and go depending on the topic. Which is totally fine!! You do you!! But hopefully this one appeals to everyone!! ?
I struggled hardcover with this one. And I’m also guessing that my number one book will be on a lot of lists this week!! But, I really had to go scouring my shelves for other books that fit this prompt… It also made me very hungry!! ?
If you missed the July-September topics post (yes, we’re doing them in bulk now!!), please click here. Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted here @ Meeghan reads.
top 5 books with food on the cover
With the Fire on High โ Elizabeth Acevedo
With the Fire on High has been on my wishlist for a while, but I think I need to bite the bullet on this one soon, because I’m reminded (again) of how much I want to read it!!
Blurb:
With her daughter to care for and her abuela to help support, high school senior Emoni Santiago has to make the tough decisions, and do what must be done. The one place she can let her responsibilities go is in the kitchen, where she adds a little something magical to everything she cooks, turning her food into straight-up goodness.
Still, she knows she doesnโt have enough time for her schoolโs new culinary arts class, doesnโt have the money for the classโs trip to Spain โ and shouldnโt still be dreaming of someday working in a real kitchen. But even with all the rules she has for her lifeโand all the rules everyone expects her to play by โ once Emoni starts cooking, her only real choice is to let her talent break free.
Love and Gelato โ Jenna Evans Welch
I love gelato. So much. I’m not a huge fan of ice-cream per se, but I do have a complete addiction to frozen custard. There’s a place that does it not too far from my current house, so I keep my freezer constantly stocked with little tubs with different mix-ins!! But, back to the book โ Love and Gelato is on my TBR (and has been for a scary long time)…
Blurb:
โI made the wrong choice.โ
Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isnโt in the mood for Italyโs famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. Sheโs only there because it was her motherโs dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isnโt around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is go back home.
But then she is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Linaโs uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires her, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her motherโs footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. Itโs a secret that will change everything she knew about her mother, her fatherโand even herself.
People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more.
Kiss My Cupcake โ Helena Hunting
Could I do a post this week without some sort of cake?? No, I could not. And what better baked goods than a whole STACK of cupcakes?!! Plus Kiss My Cupcake is a cute romance with a really feisty couple!! ?
Blurb:
Blaire Calloway has planned every Instagram-worthy moment of her cupcake and cocktails shop launch down to the tiniest detail. What she didn’t plan on? Ronan Knight and his old-school sports bar next door opening on the very same day. He may be super swoony, but Blaire hasn’t spent years obsessing over buttercream and bourbon to have him ruin her chance at success.
From axe throwing (his place) to frosting contests (hers), Blaire and Ronan are constantly trying to one-up each other in a battle to win new customers. But with every clash, there’s also an undeniable chemistry. When an even bigger threat to their business comes to town, they’re forced to call a temporary time-out on their own war and work together. And the more time Blaire spends getting to know the real Ronan, the more she wonders if it’s possible to have her cupcake and eat it too.
Winter โ Marissa Meyer
I was trying to remember if I had a Snow White book I could use… And then I remembered that I have the Lunar Chronicles, which is basically the same thing!! Winter‘s story is the final one though… Also, I probably wouldn’t recommend eating THAT apple!! ?
Blurb:
NOTE: This is the fourth and final book in the Lunar Chronicles, so read on at your discretion!!
Princess Winter is admired for her grace, kindness and beauty, despite the scars on her face. She’s said to be even more breathtaking than her stepmother, Queen Levana…
When Winter develops feelings for the handsome palace guard, Jacin, she fears the evil Queen will crush their romance before it has a chance to begin.
But there are stirrings against the Queen across the land. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even find the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.
Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter claim their happily ever afters by defeating Levana once and for all?

Doughnut โ Tom Holt
I found another baked good book!! I’m ridiculously pleased by this… But, Doughnut is not what it appears. This is actually a satirical sci-fi novel, and I love the whole YouSpace series. You don’t need to read them in order (I didn’t!!), but they are very enjoyable.
Blurb:
The doughnut is a thing of beauty. A circle of fried doughy perfection. A source of comfort in trying times, perhaps.
For Theo Bernstein, however, it is far, far more.
Things have been going pretty badly for Theo Bernstein. An unfortunate accident at work has lost him his job (and his work involved a Very Very Large Hadron Collider, so he’s unlikely to get it back). His wife has left him. And he doesn’t have any money.
Before Theo has time to fully appreciate the pointlessness of his own miserable existence, news arrives that his good friend Professor Pieter van Goyen, renowned physicist and Nobel laureate, has died.
By leaving the apparently worthless contents of his safety deposit to Theo, however, the professor has set him on a quest of epic proportions. A journey that will rewrite the laws of physics. A battle to save humanity itself.
This is the tale of a man who had nothing and gave it all up to find his destiny โ and a doughnut.

Winter is a brilliant pick! I forgot about that one because back when I read it, my library only had the German version which has a completely different cover. ?
meeghan
Ooh!! What does the cover of the German Winter look like?!

I also have With the Fire on High on my list! It’s a super popular book!
I accidentally peeked at Winter’s synopsis, but now that makes me want to start the series! So maybe that’s a good thing!
Since you like custard, have you heard of Malva pudding? Super famous South African pudding, made with apricot jam and has a spongy texture. Best way to have it when it comes out of the oven and you pour the custard over LIBERALLY over the pudding. And the contrast between the hot and cold is just DIVINE. Oh gosh, now I want some malva pudding and custard ??
meeghan
Umm, that sounds AMAZING. Apricot jam is my favourite jam flavour, and to mix it with custard sounds divine!! I have to look up a recipe!! ??
dbsguidetothegalaxy
I’ll send you one! We have a few here and there because they’re in so many South African cookbooks ? It’s an absolute fave, especially if you love sweet things!
Another 2 South African desserts I love so much are Peppermint Crisp Tart and Milktart ? we often will have Milktart as a treat and I think I requested my mom make it when I came home last year!
meeghan
Peppermint Crisp tart?! Is that like our peppermint crisps? Also, I think I need all of these recipes!!
dbsguidetothegalaxy
Hmm, I think? We use peppermint crisp chocolate slabs, I need to get up to make myself some coffee and grab some leftovers, so I’ll send you the 2 over Discord!
meeghan
Yes please!! ?

Sent to you!
