Top 5… books on my Christmas wish list
Good morning bookworms!
Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is ‘top 5 books on my Christmas wish list’. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the super lovely Shanah over at the Bionic Bookworm. You can visit her here, and join in for Top 5 Tuesday by checking out all the amazing topics we have coming up!
Before we get started, I just want to give a MASSIVE SHOUT OUT to Shanah as this is the last Top 5 Tuesday of the year. Shanah puts this amazing series together each week and comes up with some truly great topics that are such fun to respond to (and also to read everyone else’s responses)! Shanah, thank you for being awesome, I hope you have an amazing break over the holiday season, and I can’t wait to do this all over again with you next year! ?
Ok, back to business as usual. Books I want for Christmas… You know, if Santa truly loved me he’d get me copies of all the books I REALLY want that are coming out next year (like The Wicked King, Darkdawn and Wayward Son), but I guess I’ll just have to choose books that are already released… *sigh*
First and foremost, I want to add to my Barnes and Nobles leather-bound classics collection, so I’d love for Santa to bring me Grimm’s Complete Fairy Tales, Tales of Norse Mythology, Aesop’s Illustrated Fables and/or Greek Myths. I’ve had my eye on these four for quite some time, although there are a bunch of other books in this series that I’d love as well.
Secondly, Fantastic Creatures in Mythology and Folklore by Juliette Wood is pretty high on my To Be Bought (TBB) list too. I’ve been eyeing this one off for a few months now, but I just can’t justify the cost (yet). But soon, my pretty, very soon!
Next up is a book that everyone has been raving about this year: Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. I’ve heard so many good things about this, but I just haven’t bought it yet. Possibly because I feel guilty for the 140 odd unread books already adorning my bookshelves… partly because I want to hardback edition that is over $30 AUD, and that feels like a lot on Book Depository.
Next up is Splintered by A. G. Howard. This is the first book in a series of four that, while it doesn’t get a lot of hype, those who have read it are ridiculously enthusiastic. It’s an Alice in Wonderland retelling (and we all know how much I love retellings), and it looks amazing. Also, the covers are all stunning and make me want to buy them even more. I am moderately terrified that I won’t like them, which is mostly why I haven’t bought them yet!
Finally, I have Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. This is another hyped book that I’m kind of terrified of reading, but also desperately want. I dare say that I will buy this one early in 2019 (Christmas money!) and binge it as soon as it arrives, but I’ll have to see how the house-buying-savings-fund is going first. Because, you know, I can’t actually live in a house made of books. The electrician and plumber would want to put holes in them to run cables and pipes and I would probably LOSE MY MIND. *hides books from contractors*
So, there you go. Five (or six) books that I want from Santa. If anyone sees him before I do though, feel free to direct him to my (very long) Book Depository wish list for other books he could definitely feel free to get me. Also, husband, any family members or friends, etc. who may be reading… *hem hem*
Hoping Santa brings you all of your bookish wants for Christmas! And until next time, happy reading! ??
