Top 5 books I will definitely* read in 2022
Hello bookworms!! Welcome to Top 5 Tuesday!! This week’s topic is top 5 books I will definitely* read in 2022!! Yes, we’re still in that hopeful, glossy stage of January where we can make promises that we (generally) intend to fill. It’s lovely, isn’t it!!
You might be thinking, “Gosh… this topic looks… familiar?” Which is totally fair because we did this exact same topic in 2021. And thankfully there’s a disclaimer… Because I read exactly 0 of those books in 2021. Yup, none. So, once again, disclaimer:
* This is only a hopeful wish, not a contractual obligation. The TBR police won’t come for you if you don’t follow through, and neither will any souls be taken in punishment. I cannot guarantee that your TBR won’t topple over and crush you though. To be honest, I have kind of been expecting mine to. Maybe that’s why I’ve started piling books IN FRONT of my bookcase… π€
If you missed the January-March 2022 topics please see this link. Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted here @ Meeghan reads.
top 5 books I will definitely* read in 2022
Unintentionally, the first two books that I added to this list were vampire related. And then the fourth book was as well, so I threw out my original number three and went with 5 vampire books instead. Maybe 2022 will be the year of the vampire. In fact, I’m calling it now. Maybe the plan to actually complete this list is to THEME it. I mean, it can’t be any worse than 2021’s disastrous attempt, right?!
The Afterlife of the Party β Marlene Perez
When my best friend Skyler told me about this party in the Hollywood Hills, I was less than enthused. As it turned out, my feelings were more than justified. That party ruined my life.
Tansy didnβt even want to go to the party. Itβs hard enough living in one of your best friendβs shadows and secretly in love with your other best friend.
And now sheβs leaving it a vampire.
Now her best friend Skyler is stuck on the road trip from hell, on tour as a groupie with a literal band of vamps. Tansy sets out with Vaughn, her other BFF turned maybe more, to save Skylarβs life and take down the band. But when they find themselves in the middle of a vampire war, will Tansy be able to make the ultimate sacrifice to save her friends?
The Beautiful β RenΓ©e Ahdieh
In 1872, New Orleans is a city ruled by the dead. But to seventeen-year-old Celine Rousseau, New Orleans provides her a refuge after she’s forced to flee her life as a dressmaker in Paris. Taken in by the sisters of the Ursuline convent along with six other girls, Celine quickly becomes enamored with the vibrant city from the music to the food to the soirΓ©es and β especially β to the danger.
She soon becomes embroiled in the city’s glitzy underworld, known as La Cour des Lions, after catching the eye of the group’s leader, the enigmatic SΓ©bastien Saint Germain. When the body of one of the girls from the convent is found in the lair of La Cour des Lions, Celine battles her attraction to him and suspicions about SΓ©bastien’s guilt along with the shame of her own horrible secret.
When more bodies are discovered, each crime more gruesome than the last, Celine and New Orleans become gripped by the terror of a serial killer on the looseβone Celine is sure has set her in his sights… and who may even be the young man who has stolen her heart. As the murders continue to go unsolved, Celine takes matters into her own hands and soon uncovers something even more shocking: an age-old feud from the darkest creatures of the underworld reveals a truth about Celine she always suspected simmered just beneath the surface.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown β Holly Black
Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown’s gates, you can never leave.
One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.
Empire of the Vampire β Jay Kristoff
From holy cup comes holy light;
The faithful hand sets world aright.
And in the Seven Martyrsβ sight,
Mere man shall end this endless night.
It has been twenty-seven long years since the last sunrise. For nearly three decades, vampires have waged war against humanity; building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own. Now, only a few tiny sparks of light endure in a sea of darkness.
Gabriel de LeΓ³n is a silversaint: a member of a holy brotherhood dedicated to defending realm and church from the creatures of the night. But even the Silver Order could not stem the tide once daylight failed us, and now, only Gabriel remains.
Imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story. A story of legendary battles and forbidden love, of faith lost and friendships won, of the Wars of the Blood and the Forever King and the quest for humanityβs last remaining hope:
The Holy Grail.
Midnight Sun β Stephenie Meyer
When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella’s side of the story. At last, readers can experience Edward’s version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun.
This unforgettable tale as told through Edward’s eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he justify following his heart if it means leading Bella into danger?

Woo hoo! Club TBR-Empire of the Vampire! π I’ve heard such amazing things about it!
meeghan
Yay!! TBR buddies for the win!! I have also heard amazing things… but wow, that’s a big book!! π
Em @ The Geeky Jock
Itβs definitely a brick. Iβve been told that it absolutely flies once you start β¦ But, even then, it feels like a big plunge.
meeghan
But Kristoff is known for cliffhangers and he hasnβt even announced a title for book 2 ππ
Em @ The Geeky Jock
ohhhhhhhhhh β¦ Maybe the best strategy is to wait for a Book 2 announcement? I do not fancy re-reading this beast in preparation.
meeghan
Hahahahahahahahaβ¦ this is exactly the reason why I have so many duology and trilogies on my shelves unread. βIβll just wait until the last book comes out and then read them all at once.β β¦ famous last words!!

Oh, I really have to finish Coldest Girl in Coldtown. I started it once and I really liked it. I don’t even know why I didn’t finish it. Thanks for reminding me.
That’s why I have changed to ebooks now! No worries about toppling bookcases anymore! π
meeghan
Hahaha!! My issue is that ebooks in Australia are almost the same cost as physical books… so I feel like it’s pointless buying a digital version when I could buy a physical copy for the same price.

It has been years since I’ve read a vampire book. Good choices!

Theyβre making a comeback π Crave is definitely my most recent favourite. It doesnβt take itself seriously and has a bit of a laugh at the whole genre. π

So many great picks!
I’m already failing at my list because I just started reading The Wheel of Time series. I underestimated how long those books are, so I’m now sure I’ll even get to anything else this year π
meeghan
Oooft. I feel that. That series is HUUUUGE. But, it’s a big tick in the completed column when you’re done!!
