Top 5… books I need to read in 2019
Good morning bookworms!
Brief interlude: OMG I am finally home!! Technically we got home yesterday just after lunch, but after driving just over 1100km (~685 miles) in 1.5 days I am EXHAUSTED! Also, still on my summer holidays for another 3 weeks, so plenty of time to keep reading. (Also, I literally read 1.5 books while I was away, and that 1 book that I finished? It was Saga Vol 1 which is like 10 pages… FFS Meeghan!! Why did you lug that suitcase of books around everywhere with you?!)
Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is ‘top 5 books I need to read in 2019’. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the super lovely Shanah over at the Bionic Bookworm. You can visit her here, and join in for Top 5 Tuesday by checking out all the amazing topics we have coming up!
I can’t believe Shanah expects me to only list five books I need to read this year. FIVE! Like, I’m not even sure which ones to put because five is so low! My plan for 2019 is to read 18 x that number, Shanah! However, I’m going to cheat slightly… I know, that’s not like me at all… ?
So, for all the books I want to read that are actually already on my TBR list (because they’re already published), please go check out my Beat the Backlist post that lists all 158 books that I physically own a copy of that are still unread… *hides from towering mountain of books that will likely crush me to death if I keep adding to it* *adds two more books to pile and creeps slowly out of room*
OK, five books that I DESPERATELY want to read in 2019 that aren’t on that list? This is basically my top 5 anticipated reads for 2019! Let’s go!
The Wicked King by Holly Black (also, HAPPY RELEASE DAY!) is absolutely at the top of this list. I want so much more Jude and Cardan, but also Severin and Roiben and everyone in this entire world. GIVE ME MORE. LET ME LOVE THEM.
Midnight Beauties by Megan Shepherd, which is the sequel to the wonderfully amazing Grim Lovelies. I really enjoyed the first one last year and am very much looking forward to the conclusion coming out in September!
The Sky Weaver by Kristen Ciccarelli is the final book in the Iskari trilogy, and I CAN NOT WAIT FOR IT. Except, I have to wait until November and I think I might die of anticipation. I mean, there isn’t even a cover yet, so you have to be content to stare at the first two books instead. Both of which I read in 2018 and they were SO BEAUTIFUL.
Neil Gaiman’s VERY long awaited and (doubtless) HIGHLY anticipated follow on from Neverwhere, The Seven Sisters, is also out in September 2019. I’ve already pre-ordered two copies. I am LOW-KEY obsessed… except, not very low-key at all. I seriously hope it has more Door and Richard and the Marquis. I’ve not read an early synopsis for it so I have no idea! Fingers crossed that Chris Riddell ends up doing an illustrated copy of it so it can match one of my copies of Neverwhere.
Finally, the book that will likely kill me, and is going to make September 2019 a VERY expensive month for book buying (as I will be pre-ordering about 7 different copies to get my full sets of the series), is Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff. (I mean, seriously, did you actually think there might be a single Top 5 Tuesday that I don’t mention this series?) The conclusion is coming. It’s taking about as long as winter, but we’ve all been promised that it’ll be dark and bloody and the ending that Mia (and us readers) deserve. I CAN NOT WAIT. Well, not calmy or quietly, anyway. Also, I really want to see the AUS/NZ version of the cover!!! Come on already!!!
Until next time, happy reading! ??

I didn’t even know the second Iskari book came out. That’s how out of the loop I am! I was a big fan of the first one. And of Grim Lovelies. So there’s another one. And anything Gaiman is a yes. And Darkdawn is a yes (I just have to read Godsgrave—which just came in the mail yesterday!) Basically… can you decide what I read for the rest of my life?

Joe, I will try my hardest!! Also, The Caged Queen was good!! It’s Roa’s story, so it’s very different, but the little stories and myths are all about the scrublands history. I loved it!! Also, watch out for that HORRENDOUS cliffhanger at the end of Godsgrave!!
Beware Of The Reader
I know! She is just cruel to ask us only for 5 books! The Wicked King and Darkdawn are on my (3) Most Awaited in 2019 posts LOL

I’m SO excited for Darkdawn too…despite having not read Godsgrave yet. ?But so many people were screaming after Godsgrave that I kind of ended up procrastinating and now I might as well wait until Darkdawn is out and just read them one after the other.?ALSO YES THE WICKED KING. I’M SO STOKED AND EXCITED!! I also only just read The Last Namsara and it was so so excellent.?

I was fortunate enough to get an ARC of Godsgrave so I’ve been screaming since 8 August 2017. My voice is kinda hoarse at the moment. But yes! Read it! (But wait til Darkdawn because the cliffhanger is literal death.
The Caged Queen was super lovely. I recommend it too!
