Top 5… books I LOVED that others DIDN’T
Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is ‘books I loved that others didn’t’, and is hosted by the super lovely Shanah over at the Bionic Bookworm, and you can check out her page here (please do, she’s amazing). Shanah, you’re killing me with this topic!
This is kind of interesting because different people like all sorts of different things, and when we say ‘others’, I’m probably going to reference the people on Goodreads that I am friends with, because I’m sure there are ‘others’ in the world who did love these books, otherwise they wouldn’t have been published. (Also, I totally trawled through my GR’s friends’ book rating lists for these because it turns out we all like the same things…)

- John Green’s An Abundance of Katherines seems to be pretty hit and miss. I really enjoyed it as it’s a story about growing up and finding yourself, but apparently not everyone felt the same way. Personally, it’s not my fave of his books (my faves are Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns) but it’s #3 on my list (note: I have not read Turtles All the Way Down as yet). And for a John Green book, it’s pretty care-free.

- A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas was not the best ending to a trilogy; however, I don’t think it deserved some of the hate it got. In fact, I still gave it 5/5 (really 4.5 but I round up on GR), which may have been down to how much I loved ACOMAF than ACOWAR itself, but we all know how much happier I am when the author kills off characters, so that’s how I think it could have been improved.

- The One by Kiera Cass was an interesting premise. The series is like a crossover between The Bachelor and The Hunger Games, and this book was to be the end of the series, but then Cass released another two books that follow the next generation. I actually really enjoyed the last book, much more than the first one, but I can see how it would irk people, given that it’s the same story for three books, just with more violent outcomes from the surrounding environment.

- The Infernal Devices books by Cassandra Clare are coming up a lot on my comparisons on GR. Particularly Clockwork Angel, and I have no idea why. I genuinely can’t remember the book that well (so it clearly left an impression), but as to the series as a whole, I enjoyed it far more than I did The Mortal Instruments – although TMI has been somewhat sullied by the TV show and the movie (both of which I cannot stand).

- To my greatest dismay, Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor is rounding out my list of five. However, it took me two DNFs of the first book to really get into it, so I can kind of see why people would be hesitant to keep going, but it’s so GOOD! Anyway, if these are on anyone’s DNF piles, please have another go. I promise it’s a slow start, but wow does it pick up in the best way.
Next week’s topic will have me hiding in shame, so I look forward to that as well…
Happy reading!

I really need to read “the Infernal Devices” and the “Mortal Instruments”! I feel like they’re all I’ve been hearing about!
And “The one” is like “the Bachelor” and “The Hunger Games”? … And those two pretty much one and the same? ?

Ha ha ha!! It’s too funny when you have to read over your post to figure out whether you meant to put something there or not. Sounds like you write like me!! Put it up and then kind of forget what you said! There are too many thought in my head to keep them ALL in there! Once they’ve escaped, they can do as they want!! BE FREE LITTLE THOUGHTS!! LIVE YOUR LIFE OUT IN THE BLOGGOSPHERE!!! ????

?? That’s EXACTLY how my brain works! I argue with my husband and then a week later he’s all “you said blah” and I’m all ? “I would never say that!” I totes probably said that… ?
It’s not helpful when I’m writing side plot points because I come back to them later going “where the hell did that come from?!?!”

I loved The Infernal Devices trilogy FAR MORE than I did the Mortal Instruments series! TID just felt so more cleanly written for some reason. Great choice! Fantastic list 🙂
Thanks so much for participating – added you to the list 🙂

I think The Selection series is the literary equivalent if reality tv. I only got through the first two books. I LOVE Daughter of Smoke & Bone. I’ve read the series 5 or 6 times. X

I agree with the synopsis of The Selection, but I liked the third book best because it felt less that way than the other two. I hate reality tv!!
