Top 5 bookish resolutions

Hello bookworms!! Happy Tuesday!! Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is top 5 bookish resolutions.

Today is the first Top 5 Tuesday for 2021, and I want to know what your plans are!! I would also like to know what my own plans are… And of course, writing this post is the first time I’ve thought about them.

If you missed the January topics post, please click here!! Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted here.

100 book Goodreads goal

This is actually no different to last year’s goal. In fact, the last three years I’ve managed to hit over 110 books. Yes, even with my horrible slump in November/December. Is the slump still happening? Yes. Probably. Who knows. I think I’ve been reading this year??

Anyway, I’ve set my Goodreads goal at 100 again. I just need to finish books and follow through!! I also need to follow through on the twitter thread of books read for the year that I meant to do in 2020. Think of this as my side quest to the main goal.

tackle the TBR

Yes, that pesky TBR needs to be grabbed by the ear, sat down, and given a stern talking to. No more ridiculous increasing, and far more decreasing. It also means that I really need to start prioritising reading books that I actually have on my shelves instead of looking at all the bright, shiny and pretty new ones.

Outrageously, I let my TBR grow to just over 350 in 2020. Even I’m disgusted by that. And it’s not even counting the books I got for Christmas. *internal shudders* Which means that I have a huge Backlist TBR for 2021. So, the aim is to get it closer to 250, but I would also accept around 275.

action the ARCs

Honestly, I don’t like to talk about all of my unread ARC and finished review copies. Except for when I first get them. Speaking of, I got my first one for 2021 yesterday!! I am stupidly behind on reading them, and I don’t know why I haven’t been blacklisted by publishers yet. It’s really very naughty of me.

So, I want to get them all read. And maybe stop requesting new ones unless they are absolutely something that I desperately want to read!!

book buying ban(ish)

So, this one is kind of thing, but I won’t be sticking to it wholly. But only because every time I give myself a “ban”, I then go excessive after it’s over. Which ends up defeating the entire purpose of it.

I am expecting about 4-5 more books to come in from Christmas gifts / shopping. I also have some pre-orders that will arrive between now and April. And I’ll be skipping a LOT of book boxes. So, all in all, I’m really just cutting back on the purchasing of books!! (Plus I’m running out of space to put them…)

read it, review it

As well as reading books, I really need to get back into the habit of reviewing them. You may have noticed that I just kind of stopped doing this. In fact, I did eight book reviews in the last six months. And I put up a story highlight for reviews on instagram, but there’s nothing in it.

So, read it, then review it. Put reviews on here, goodreads, instagram and twitter. It doesn’t have to be a full review, but something is better than nothing. I’m even going to start the Monday Mini’s series that I’ve been planning for months (and not done anything with).
