Top 5 bookish resolutions
Hello bookworms!! Happy Tuesday!! Today’s Top 5 Tuesday is top 5 bookish resolutions.
Today is the first Top 5 Tuesday for 2021, and I want to know what your plans are!! I would also like to know what my own plans are… And of course, writing this post is the first time I’ve thought about them.
If you missed the January topics post, please click here!! Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted here.

100 book Goodreads goal
This is actually no different to last year’s goal. In fact, the last three years I’ve managed to hit over 110 books. Yes, even with my horrible slump in November/December. Is the slump still happening? Yes. Probably. Who knows. I think I’ve been reading this year??
Anyway, I’ve set my Goodreads goal at 100 again. I just need to finish books and follow through!! I also need to follow through on the twitter thread of books read for the year that I meant to do in 2020. Think of this as my side quest to the main goal.
tackle the TBR
Yes, that pesky TBR needs to be grabbed by the ear, sat down, and given a stern talking to. No more ridiculous increasing, and far more decreasing. It also means that I really need to start prioritising reading books that I actually have on my shelves instead of looking at all the bright, shiny and pretty new ones.
Outrageously, I let my TBR grow to just over 350 in 2020. Even I’m disgusted by that. And it’s not even counting the books I got for Christmas. *internal shudders* Which means that I have a huge Backlist TBR for 2021. So, the aim is to get it closer to 250, but I would also accept around 275.
action the ARCs
Honestly, I don’t like to talk about all of my unread ARC and finished review copies. Except for when I first get them. Speaking of, I got my first one for 2021 yesterday!! I am stupidly behind on reading them, and I don’t know why I haven’t been blacklisted by publishers yet. It’s really very naughty of me.
So, I want to get them all read. And maybe stop requesting new ones unless they are absolutely something that I desperately want to read!!
book buying ban(ish)
So, this one is kind of thing, but I won’t be sticking to it wholly. But only because every time I give myself a “ban”, I then go excessive after it’s over. Which ends up defeating the entire purpose of it.
I am expecting about 4-5 more books to come in from Christmas gifts / shopping. I also have some pre-orders that will arrive between now and April. And I’ll be skipping a LOT of book boxes. So, all in all, I’m really just cutting back on the purchasing of books!! (Plus I’m running out of space to put them…)
read it, review it
As well as reading books, I really need to get back into the habit of reviewing them. You may have noticed that I just kind of stopped doing this. In fact, I did eight book reviews in the last six months. And I put up a story highlight for reviews on instagram, but there’s nothing in it.
So, read it, then review it. Put reviews on here, goodreads, instagram and twitter. It doesn’t have to be a full review, but something is better than nothing. I’m even going to start the Monday Mini’s series that I’ve been planning for months (and not done anything with).
Please don’t forget to link to one of my posts (not my home page), and I will link back to all of your posts as soon as I can!! (Because I know it’s Tuesday here, but it’s probably still Monday elsewhere…)

All admirable goals! I always say I’m going to limit the number of ARCs I request …. and then I request more!

Hahahahahahahaha, I feel that so much. ??

Don’t even get me started on my TBR pile. You will see it also made my list this week, along with a few other things. I’m really working on not participating in as many VBTs this year.

LOVE THESE GOALS MEEGHAN! I feel the TBR goal to my toes and to probably the deepest depths of my soul if I’m being honest. I have been hiding my face with my hair everytime I look at my shelves because I think its safe to say that 90% of the books I physically own are just TBR books ?
I too need to get into the habit of reviewing books again, especially ARCs. I’ve gotten into a practice of just reading the ARC/book and then waddling to the next one without reviewing it. Wild. The backlog of reviews that I need to write are almost as bad as my TBR shelf LOL
meeghan
I believe in you Sam!! We can do it!! Let’s just forget the part where I already bought 3 books this year and start all over again!! ?
Jayati
All the best for your goals Meeghan! I have quite similar goals too – keeping up with my ARCs and finishing backlist ones and reviewing books more. I also want to start buying lesser books! Ever since I starting listening to more audiobooks, I have reduced my buying but now I want to try to buy more ebooks and only get the physical ones if I really loved it!
meeghan
The is a great plan, Jayati!! I wholeheartedly approve!! I have started getting some of my books as ebooks instead of physical copies. Or using Kindle Unlimited where I can.
Mani
Good luck Meeghan!! Hope 201 is a great bookish year!!

Hahahahaha!! I know. Maybe I will quit my job and just read all year long!! (That’s wishful thinking!!)
Never Not Reading
Sounds like a great plan!

Ah all the best of luck for all of your goals! Reading 100 books is such a great accomplishment, I’m amazed. I hope you can do it again this year. And yes to tackling the TBR! It’s SO hard not to get distracted by shiny, new books haha.
