Top 5 bookish resolutions for 2024

Hello friends!! Welcome to Top 5 Tuesday!! This week’s topic is top 5 bookish resolutions for 2024!! Yes, we are starting the new year off with some promises… Likely ones that I won’t keep. But it’s a new year, and a new me (allegedly), and now is the time to be all bright and shiny about things!!

I know we’re only in the second week of 2024 already, but I feel like I’ve already said and done some wild things on this blog. It definitely started with last week’s Jan TBR post where I was all “I’m TOTALLY going to read all my backlist books” (which, wild, because that’s over 500 books, so you know, only 5 year’s worth of reading in one fell swoop). And then… the following day(?), in last week’s T5T post I was all “but here’s some shiny new books that I also want to read!” So, I guess now is the time to actually agree on what I will do? I guess? LOL. 2024 off to a banging start. Although, last year I did anti-resolutions, so maybe that was part of my blogging problem in 2023??

If you missed the January-March 2024 topics, they are out now!! Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted (albeit very terribly) here @ Meeghan reads.

Read 100 books

2024 Goodreads reading challenge logo

After having to adjust my goal in 2022, I then set the same (lower) bar for 2023. However, it was a genuinely lovely surprise to hit 100 books again in 2023.

So, I’m back on my ‘read 100 books per year’ goal, and Nothing will stop me. Except work being crazy (check), playing more new video games each year (check), and general health challenges (check, check, check).

But, you know, maybe I’ll achieve this again in 2024. I mean, we get an extra day this year, so never say never!!

Do more challenges

I have to say, one thing I really missed last year was all the challenges that I have done in previous years. I really missed feeling like I achieved little reading goals along the way. (It’s the completionst gamer in me…)

So, I’ve been signing up to some challenges this year, and we’ll see how they go. The first, of course, is Kal @Reader Voracious’ Project Backlist Challenge.

I’ll do a whole post on it and the other challenges in the next week or so. I’m just trying to finish updating my ‘owned books spreadsheet’ first, so I can properly calculate my % scores!!

Use my reading journal

Week 1 spread of my Always Fully Booked 2024 Planner

Every year I get the Always Fully Booked Planner from Little Inkling Designs. And every year by March I’ve forgotten to use it.

Sometimes it’s because I don’t love the new layout, sometimes it’s because I shelve it and then it lives on the shelf, and sometimes it’s because I procrastinate getting my messy handwriting on it.

So, in 2024, I am biting the bullet, and I am messing it up immediately. I’m using my hoarded collection of stickers and washi tape and jumping in with both feet. I’ve already used white-out FIVE times. And, nothing exploded, the world keeps turning, and my planner still exists. Wild.

Blog more

Yes, yes. “Blog more” is very vague… And that’s deliberately so.

So, my IDEAL blogging amount would be 3-4 times per week. However, I love my job (although it’s a bit cray) and I’ve got at least two international work trips this year (yay for Singapore in two weeks…), my health is not as good as I would like, and I also want to release quality content, not just quantity. So, we have a deliberately vague middle ground going on here.

In saying that, I 100% intend to post my T5T posts within the week of the topic. Sometimes it will be on the Tuesday, but sometimes it’ll come later. BUT, it WILL COME.

Do I want to catch up on old posts too? Absolutely, but I can’t commit to everything all at once. So, let’s start off with the basics until I get a better rhythm back. The good news is that my home office/library doesn’t feel like an extension of my workplace any more. Yay for small mercies!! (Also, yes, that is my actual desk, with little cat feets at the bottom πŸˆβ€β¬›)

Blog HOP more

List of bloggers I follow who have posted recently

So… when I fell off the blogging wagon, I also fell off the blog-hopping wagon. Which was bad.

Some people I still catch up with and chat to through Discord servers and instagram and other various social media places… But I have been a bad blog-follower. And I know what it’s like to feel like you’re screaming into the void, so I want to be more present for you all!!

So, in 2024, I will make it a priority to come and visit all of the lovely blogs that I follow more often. I will like, and comment, and engage, and show my affection and appreciation to this little community of wonderful people. Because you deserve it. πŸ’•

FYI, I have built a database of everyone who know of that has joined a Top 5 Tuesday topic. Which means, I should be able to come and visit blogs every week to find your posts. You won’t necessarily need to link your posts below (unless you want to). But, if you’re new or I’ve not found your blog, please drop a comment below with a link to your post, and I will add you!
