Top 5 book covers of 2022
Hello friends!! Welcome to Top 5 Tuesday!! This week’s topic is top 5 book covers of 2022!!
YES ― we are in the last few weeks of 2022!! Honestly, as much as I have had some good things come to me this year, I am also very ready for it to be OVER. I just want a fresh slate to come my way. 2023 is going to be the year that we finally have a holiday again, and I’d really love to settle into this new job (although I can’t really call it new anymore), and find that work/life balance.
But before I move on, we need to talk about some AMAZING books, authors and artists first. This week we’re doing our top 5 book covers of the year. I used to be organised and research cover artists to give them proper credit. But I am tired (and sick this week) so, I haven’t done that this year. However, all credit to them for the amazing work they do!
If you’re interested in seeing my top covers of past years, you can see them here: 2021, 2020, 2019.
I am planning to post top 5 Tuesday topics for Q1 next year this week. If you missed the October-December 2022 topics they are out now!! Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted here @ Meeghan reads.

The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea — Axie Oh

Deadly storms have ravaged Mina’s homeland for generations. Floods sweep away entire villages, while bloody wars are waged over the few remaining resources. Her people believe the Sea God, once their protector, now curses them with death and despair. In an attempt to appease him, each year a beautiful maiden is thrown into the sea to serve as the Sea God’s bride, in the hopes that one day the “true bride” will be chosen and end the suffering.
Many believe that Shim Cheong, the most beautiful girl in the village ― and the beloved of Mina’s older brother Joon ― may be the legendary true bride. But on the night Cheong is to be sacrificed, Joon follows Cheong out to sea, even knowing that to interfere is a death sentence. To save her brother, Mina throws herself into the water in Cheong’s stead.
Swept away to the Spirit Realm, a magical city of lesser gods and mythical beasts, Mina seeks out the Sea God, only to find him caught in an enchanted sleep. With the help of a mysterious young man named Shin ― as well as a motley crew of demons, gods and spirits ― Mina sets out to wake the Sea God and bring an end to the killer storms once and for all.
But she doesn’t have much time: A human cannot live long in the land of the spirits. And there are those who would do anything to keep the Sea God from waking…
Wolfsong — TJ Klune *
Ox was twelve when his daddy taught him a very valuable lesson. He said that Ox wasn’t worth anything and people would never understand him. Then he left.
Ox was sixteen when he met the boy on the road. The little boy who talked and talked and talked. He found out later the little boy hadn’t spoken in almost two years before that day, and that the little boy belonged to a family who had moved into the house at the end of the lane.
Ox was seventeen when he found out the little boy’s secret and it painted the world around him in colors of red and orange and violet, of Alpha and Beta and Omega.
Ox was twenty-three when murder came to town and tore a hole in his head and heart. The boy chased after the monster with revenge in his bloodred eyes, leaving Ox behind to pick up the pieces.
It’s been three years since that fateful day ― and the boy is back. Except now he’s a man, and Ox can no longer ignore the song that howls between them.
* I am aware this book originally came out in 2016, but the 2022 rerelease cover is GORGEOUS.

Gallant — V.E. Schwab

Everything casts a shadow. Even the world we live in. And as with every shadow, there is a place where it must touch. A seam, where the shadow meets its source.
Olivia Prior has grown up in Merilance School for girls, and all she has of her past is her mother’s journal ― which seems to unravel into madness. Then, a letter invites Olivia to come home ― to Gallant. Yet when Olivia arrives, no one is expecting her. But Olivia is not about to leave the first place that feels like home, it doesn’t matter if her cousin Matthew is hostile or if she sees half-formed ghouls haunting the hallways.
Olivia knows that Gallant is hiding secrets, and she is determined to uncover them. When she crosses a ruined wall at just the right moment, Olivia finds herself in a place that is Gallant ― but not. The manor is crumbling, the ghouls are solid, and a mysterious figure rules over all. Now Olivia sees what has unraveled generations of her family, and where her father may have come from.
Olivia has always wanted to belong somewhere, but will she take her place as a Prior, protecting our world against the Master of the House? Or will she take her place beside him?
Belladonna — Adalyn Grace
Orphaned as a baby, nineteen-year-old Signa has been raised by a string of guardians, each more interested in her wealth than her wellbeing ― and each has met an untimely end. Her remaining relatives are the elusive Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at Thorn Grove, an estate both glittering and gloomy. Its patriarch mourns his late wife through wild parties, while his son grapples for control of the family’s waning reputation, and his daughter suffers from a mysterious illness. But when their mother’s restless spirit appears claiming she was poisoned, Signa realizes that the family she depends on could be in grave danger and enlists the help of a surly stable boy to hunt down the killer.
However, Signa’s best chance of uncovering the murderer is an alliance with Death himself, a fascinating, dangerous shadow who has never been far from her side. Though he’s made her life a living hell, Death shows Signa that their growing connection may be more powerful ― and more irresistible ― than she ever dared imagine.

The Luminaries — Susan Dennard

Hemlock Falls isn’t like other towns. You won’t find it on a map, your phone won’t work here, and the forest outside town might just kill you.
Winnie Wednesday wants nothing more than to join the Luminaries, the ancient order that protects Winnie’s town ― and the rest of humanity ― from the monsters and nightmares that rise in the forest of Hemlock Falls every night.
Ever since her father was exposed as a witch and a traitor, Winnie and her family have been shunned. But on her sixteenth birthday, she can take the deadly Luminary hunter trials and prove herself true and loyal ― and restore her family’s good name. Or die trying.
But in order to survive, Winnie enlists the help of the one person who can help her train: Jay Friday, resident bad boy and Winnie’s ex-best friend. While Jay might be the most promising new hunter in Hemlock Falls, he also seems to know more about the nightmares of the forest than he should. Together, he and Winnie will discover a danger lurking in the forest no one in Hemlock Falls is prepared for.
Not all monsters can be slain, and not all nightmares are confined to the dark.

FYI, I have built a database of everyone who know of that has joined a Top 5 Tuesday topic. Which means, I should be able to come and visit blogs every week to find your posts. You won’t necessarily need to link your posts below (unless you want to). But, if you’re new or I’ve not found your blog, please drop a comment below with a link to your post, and I will add you!

Luminaris & the girl who fell beneath the sea are gorgeous indeed!! However I do prefer the other cover of belladona, the face of the lady with the flowers.

Ooh, really?! I like the birds… I seem to have a real thing for reflection covers. Gallant has one too, and so did one of my picks for last year (Lore Olympus).

I think it’s VERY unfair there were so many gorgeous covers this year! Belladonna is stunning and I love the creepiness of The Luminaries.
