Top 5 Tuesday

Top 5… book boyfriends (and girlfriends)

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!! And to celebrate Shanah over at the Bionic Bookworm let me pick whatever topic I wanted! Not really, it’s totally coincidental, but I am absolutely making the most of this opportunity! You can visit her here, and join in for Top 5 Tuesday by checking out all the amazing topics we have coming up!

So, happy birthday to me, let’s get in.

NUMBER ONE book boyfriend is Ronan Lynch. *swoon* Call me crazy, but I love me some dark, broody, sarcastic, smart-mouth, impulsive, angsty love. If you have not read The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater (a, why are you here??, and b) go do it immediately!! It is absolutely one of my most favourite series ever. Ronan is also sweet, in an asshole type of way, and magical in the best of ways (just read it!). Also, yes, I picked the cover image for book two, The Dream Thieves, but that’s because Ronan is actually on the cover. Fun fact, only Ronan and Blue actually get cover images in this series.

Prince Cardan from Holly Black’s The Cruel Prince is book boyfriend two (for reasons above… I have a type, as you will come to see). Cardan is all of the above, but possibly even broodier. I also love his secret obsessiveness. It’s the little things that bring me joy! (There’s actually a better fanfic art of Cardan, but I have ZERO idea who drew it, and I love Arz’s work.)

Mia Corvere from The Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff is book girlfriend numero uno (I’m an equal opportunity character lover) or book partner (that sounds so meh) number three. Mia is, again, dark, broody, sarcastic, impulsive, quick witted, etc. Also, super dangerous. Actually, they’re all kind of dangerous… You know, as I’m typing this, I’m really recognising I totally have a thing for morally grey characters.

Next on my list of would-be fictional lovers, is Arlen Zachary from The Harmatia Cycle by M E Vaughan. Another dark and broody lover, I actually kind of despised him a little in book one, but book two really delved into his character and now I just LOVE him. (FYI, that’s Arlen on the left – not much fan art for this independently published series.)

And finally, number five goes to Karou from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor. Karou is kind of lighter than the others, she is definitely a creative, gentle soul; but man that girl can kick butt when she wants to. Also, still dark, sarcastic, kind of broody, and the rest.

With that being said, I’d like to add some other book lovers who would totally round this out to a top ten (I can’t help myself, I love them)!

6: Rowan Whitethorn from the Throne of Glass series

7: Sean Kendrick from The Scorpio Races (also lacking in fan art)

8: Tyrannus Basilton Grimm-Pitch (or you know, just Baz) from Carry On (honestly, he’s basically Ronan with long hair and pointy teeth)

9: Rufus Merle from The Harmatia Cycle (sadness on the nil fan art, but glowy blue eyes on the covers!)

10: Xander from a book that is actually still yet to be published, but once it is, I am absolutely going to RAVE about this until you all tell me to shut up (and probably even then some).

NOTE: All fan art has been linked to the NAME of the character. I have tried to find the original artist’s account for each of them – the only one I couldn’t find was Baz’s from Carry On, it just links back to the Pinterest board I found it on.
