Top 5 authors I want to try
Hello bookworms!! Happy Tuesday!! This week’s Top 5 Tuesday is top 5 authors I want to try.
Today we’re talking about authors we want to try, and I’m going to talk about authors that I want to try, that I actually have the books of. Because I like to personally victimise myself. Why did I think this was a good idea back in December??
I also won’t be doubling up on Top 5 series I want to start, and Top 5 books I meant to read in 2020, as there could have been a lot of crossovers with these ones!!
If you missed the February topics post, please click here!! AND, topics for March will be up on Thursday (because I am super disorganised)!! Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted here.
Top 5 authors I want to try
Halie Fewkes
I have been following Halie Fewkes since A Deal for Three was launched on Kickstarter. I backed book 3 and 4 based on recommendations from some friends. And, I’ve just backed the prequel on Kickstarter as well. Have I ever read anything by Halie Fewkes?? Uhhh… No.
The story is a fantasy series, and I genuinely have no idea how many books there will be. I know it might be a bit odd to back an author that I haven’t read anything by before… but I really trust the people who recommended it!!
Unread books I own by Halie Fewkes:
- Secrets of the Tally
- Catching Epics
- A Deal for Three
- To Wear the Cloak
Dhonielle Clayton
I can’t remember what the first book I got by Clayton was, but I have the Tiny Pretty Things duology that she wrote with Sona Charaipotra, and I also have The Belles. I think the latter came in a book box? Both series that I really want to read… Especially now that Tiny Pretty Things is on Netflix.
If anyone has started watching Tiny Pretty Things on Netflix, please let me know if it’s good!! I might watch it before I read it so I don’t hate the adaptation!!
Unread books I own by Dhonielle Clayton:
- Tiny Pretty Things
- Shiny Broken Pieces
- The Belles
Lynnette Noni
I can’t be the only one who this has happened to… but I have a bunch of books by a local(ish) author. They’re signed and personalised. Also my friends yell at me to read them all the time. I even have a 10 year anniversary limited edition copy. I’m totally into supporting this author. But… I just haven’t read any of their books.
Yup, for me, that author is Lynette Noni… And I don’t even know why this is the case?!! Help me!!
Unread books I own by Lynnette Noni:
- Whisper
- Weapon
- Arkanae
Naomi Novik
Of everything that I know about Naomi Novik, and my own reading preferences, this should be a done deal. Novik is well known for her ability to rewrite fairytales and tell the most fantastical retellings. This is my favourite kind of fantasy story. Therefore, this should be an absolute no-brainer.
And yet, here we are. Years after buying a book of hers, when she was recommended to me by my own trusted bookstore, and it is still unread. This is actually quite shameful.
Unread books I own by Naomi Novik:
- Spinning Silver
- Temeraire
- A Deadly Education
Rin Chupeco
FYI, I am absolutely throwing myself at your mercy right now. Please don’t be upset that still haven’t read by Chupeco. Trust me, I kick myself all the time for it.
I nearly added The Bone Witch trilogy to the Series I Haven’t Started list… but then I realised that I would have read none of those authors, and so it got bumped over here. (And Melina Marchetta is still a worthy addition.)
Unread books I own by Rin Chupeco:
- The Bone Witch
- The Heart Forger
- The Shadow Glass
- Wicked As You Wish

I haven’t read any books by these authors either, except Rin Chupeco but I do hope to get to them soon! An unexpected author I haven’t read books by but own a lot of is Alice Oseman! I really need to rectify that ASAP!
meeghan
OH MY GOSH!! Jayati!! I’ve read all of them except I Was Born For This. Iove them all, and I HIGHY recommend them!! x

I didn’t know Tiny Pretty Things was originally a book series. Now I can’t decide between watching the show or reading it ?
meeghan
I always recommend watching first!! Mostly because you’ll be less disappointed in the adaptation if you do it this way. The books will just add more to the story of the show. Or make it better?!!
Ariel
I never thought of it like that! I’m going to follow that advice, thanks!!
Kal @ Reader Voracious
Naomi Novik is on my author TBR as well… I own 2 of her books! You def should read Rin asap
meeghan
Kal, I really need to add Rin to my TBR. But I’m so scared that I won’t love her!!
Kal @ Reader Voracious
IDR if you like horror, but The Girl from the Well is really good!
meeghan
Horror is definitely not for me. I played Dead Island for a week and then started having very vivid zombie dreams. I can’t even begin to think what horror would do to my extremely active imagination!! ???
Hanna
I had no idea that Dhonielle co-wrote Tiny Pretty Things! I need to add that to my list as well. This is how good I am, keeping track of anything ???♀️
meeghan
Hanna, don’t even stress!! I found books on my shelves that weren’t even on my TBR, so I have even more books than I thought I did that are unread… ??♀️
thepunktheory
I read A Deadly Education and Wicked as you Wish and enjoyed both those books so much! Hope you’ll like them as well! 😀
meeghan
Thank you!! I’m sure I will… just need to actually pick them up!! ?
