Top 5 anticipated reads for Oct-Dec 2022
Hello friends!! Welcome to Top 5 Tuesday!! This week’s topic is top 5 anticipated reads for Oct-Dec 2022!
Not sure about you all, but I am moderately terrified that we’re in the last quarter of 2022. I’m pretty sure I say something similar every time we start a new month… but also, where did 2022 go?! Because I’m pretty sure I’ve spent the last month in meetings, but the months before that blew past too quickly as well…
BUT, shiny new books will always bring a smile to my face. So, let’s talk about my top 5 (*ahem* possibly 8) shiny new books for Oct-Dec. I will likely collect them, and probably even start them. But finishing books is not my forte at the moment… 🙃
If you missed the October-December 2022 topics they are out now!! Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, and is now being hosted here @ Meeghan reads.

Title: Blitz
Author: Daniel O’Malley
Publication date: 5 October 2022 (in Australia)
NOTE: This is book 3 in the Checquy Files series. Please read below blurb at your own risk.
Blurb:
September, 1940. Three women of the Checquy, the secret organization tasked with protecting Britain from supernatural threats, stand in the sky above London and watch German aircraft approach. Forbidden by law to interfere, all they can do is watch as their city is bombed.
Until Pamela, the most sensible of them, suddenly breaks all the rules and brings down a Nazi bomber with her bare hands. The three resolve to tell no one about it, but they soon learn that a crew member is missing from the downed bomber. Charred corpses are discovered in nearby houses and it becomes apparent that the women have unwittingly unleashed a monster.
Through a city torn by the Blitz, the friends must hunt the enemy before he kills again. Their task will take them from the tunnels of the Underground to the halls of power, where they will discover the secrets that a secret organization must keep even from itself.
Today. Lynette Binns, a librarian with a husband and child, is a late recruit to the Checquy, having discovered only as an adult her ability to electrify everyday objects with her touch.
After completing her training, she is assigned to examine a string of brutal murders of London criminals and quickly realizes that all bear the unmistakable hallmark of her own unique power. Unable to provide an alibi and determined to prove her innocence, she flees, leaving behind her family to venture into the London underworld to find answers. But now she is prey, being tracked by her own frighteningly capable comrades.
As Lyn fights off powered thugs and her own vengeful colleagues, she will find that the solution to the murders and to the mystery of her own past lies in the events of World War II, and the covert actions of three young women during the Blitz.

So when his roommate enters him in Bake Expectations, the nation’s favourite baking show, Paris is sure he’ll be the first one sent home.
But not only does he win week one’s challenge ― he meets fellow contestant Tariq Hassan. Sure, he’s the competition, but he’s also cute and kind, with more confidence than Paris could ever hope to have. Still, neither his growing romance with Tariq nor his own impressive bakes can keep Paris’s fear of failure from spoiling his happiness. And when the show’s vicious fanbase confirms his worst anxieties, Paris’s confidence is torn apart quicker than tear-and-share bread.
But if Paris can find the strength to face his past, his future, and the chorus of hecklers that live in his brain, he’ll realize it’s the sweet things in life that he really deserves.

Charm — Tracy Wolff

Author: Tracy Wolff
Publication date: 8 November 2022 (Aus)
NOTE: This is book 5 in the Crave series. Please read below blurb at your own risk.
Blurb:
He’s under my skin…
After Katmere, I shouldn’t be surprised by anything. Including the existence of a world beyond my world called the Shadow Realm. Yet here I am, stuck in a strange, dangerous place with the worst of the supernaturals, the monster that other monsters fear: Hudson Vega. He might be Jaxon’s brother and ridiculously hot, but he’s a complete bona fide pain in my ass.
The question is whether we’ll find a way out before I kill him… or run out of time.
She’s stealing my heart…
It’s a truth universally known ― at least according to Grace ― that everything is my fault. But I have a nasty suspicion that Grace isn’t as human as she thinks, and she’s the one keeping us trapped. Now we’ll have to work together not only to survive, but to save all those we’ve come to call family who live here.
Because there’s something connecting us. Something stronger than fear… and way more bloody dangerous.

Witcha Gonna Do? — Avery Flynn
Title: Witcha Gonna Do?
Author: Avery Flynn
Publication date: 6 December 2022 (Aus)
Blurb:
Could it possibly get any worse than having absolutely no magical abilities when you’re a member of the most powerful family of witches ever? It used to be that I’d say no, but then I keep getting set up on dates with Gil Connolly whose hotness is only matched by his ego. Seriously. I can’t stand him. Even if I also can’t stop thinking about him (specifically kissing him) but we’re going to pretend I never told you that part.
So yeah, my life isn’t the greatest right now, but then it goes straight to the absolute worst hell when I accidentally make my sister’s spell glitch and curse my whole family. And the only person who can help non-magical me break the spell? You guessed it. Gil the super hot jerk.
Now we have to work together to save my family and outmaneuver some evil-minded nefarious forces bent on world domination. Oh yeah, and we have to do all that while fighting against the attraction building between us because I may not be magical, but what’s happening between Gil and I sure feels like it.

I very much need to pick up an Alexis Hall book. I have two now (Something Fabulous and A Lady for a Duke) and all of his books look amazing. And he has such a backlist? I know he started out in indie and I think recently moved into trad as well, right?
I think I maybe saw Princess of Souls but knew nothing about it but never mind because it sounds so good!
Yes I’m also wanting to read Sophie Gonzales’s new book!
meeghan
Yes, Alexis Hall has an amazing back catalogue!! He really got noticed once Boyfriend Material made it big, but I’ve been making my way through some of the older books too and they are great. Big, heavy topics, but still an enjoyable read. 🥰
