*tries to find the last tag I did… gives up after scrolling for ever…*

And this one is so great!! HUGE thanks to Sofii @ A Book. A Thought. for tagging me in this!! ?

I’ve got a couple more coming soon, and one I’m really excited about!!! So let’s just get stuck into this one!!

? | What are you currently reading? | ?

Ahhhh… actually, I just finished a book before starting this … so … OH!! I really want to finish The Night Country by Melissa Albert this month, so maybe this is the reminder I need to go back to it?!

The Night Country

? | What’s your favourite ‘can’t-leave-the-house’ activity? | ?

I’m not sure I have a ‘favourite’ activity?! But I really love all the following items (mostly because they all fall under the category of “not working”):

  • napping
  • reading
  • blogging
  • Animal Crossing / Stardew Valley

A gif from the video game Animal Crossing: New Horizons, where one of the non-playable characters, a raccoon named Tom Nook, is saying "Not much to report today..."

? | A book you’ve been meaning to read for forever | ?

AH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh wow. Where to start? Ok, so three of the books I’ve probably had on my bookshelves the longest include The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton, and The Girl in Times Square by Paullina Simons. Will I ever read them?? Who know?!

The Night Circus

? | An intimidating book on your TBR | ?

Ok, so I’m going to take an easy way out here, and say Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare. The book itself is HUGE, but more than that, I’m intimidated by the FIVE OTHER huge books I have to read before it… (I stopped at TMI, TID and TBC, so I have so many books to catch up on!!)

Chain of Gold

? | Top 3 priority books on your TBR | ?

Uhhh… I don’t really set priority books? I mean, I set TBRs, but we all know how crap I am at not actually sticking to them!! *laughing, but also, secretly crying* (why do I torture myself?!)

However, books I should really get to this year include:

  • Lady Midnight – Cassandra Clare
  • Finnikin of the Rock – Melina Marchetta
  • A Question of Holmes – Brittany Cavallaro

Finnikin of the Rock

? | Recommend a short book | ?

Do graphic novels count?? Oh! Actually, I read The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julia Ember earlier this year. I already owned a copy, but lovely Bookish Luna picked it for my friend pick for my TBR and I (eventually) read it for my O.W.L.s, and I really enjoyed it, although it wasn’t what I expected at all!!

The Seafarer's Kiss

? | Recommend a long book | ?

Let it be known!! I want my legacy to be that I have convinced SOMEONE to read Magician by Raymond E. Feist. Not the half version that was split into two because the publishers were worried no one would read it, but the full length, unabridged, 841 page start of the Riftwar Saga (technically it’s books 1-2 of the Saga…)

Magician

? | Something you’d love to do while stuck at home | ?

So, I know this is going to sound ridiculous, but I would like a holiday. A #staycation if you will. I don’t want to sound ungrateful, because I absolutely am not, but I’ve been working from home since 13 March and the lines of work time and home time are definitely blurred… I have an office job where I usually work from 9-5 – maybe a bit longer if it’s busy. But, having my work laptop at home and plugged in all the time means that I’ve been working until 8pm some nights, and I ‘just log on to do something quickly’ on the weekend. This is 84% of the reason I haven’t been blogging much lately. And I understand this is a ME problem, but I’ve never been good at saying NO to work. So yeah, just a couple of days to catch up on blogging and reading would be lovely.

? | What do you plan on reading next? | ?

I kind of feel like I answered this at the start… but also, I have no idea what’s after that?! I know I have a TBR, but I’ve already ticked off like 2 books that were on it this month, so it’s essentially complete!! (Seriously, 2 books is GREAT for me!!) Maybe… A Question of Holmes?

napping would be at the top of my list too, I think my body is making up all the hours it has missed out on over the years. I am so happy you ended up reading The Seafarer’s Kiss! I am always worried about recommending books. I am still at home and things are alright. I had a lot more energy at the start of everything, now I am starting to drag since I ran out of things to work on.

I do want to read Magician! I recently was looking into that series!
Maybe a stupid question.. But is there a difference between the split and non-split version? Like in the story itself? (I mean The way of kings is also split, but the story is still the same)

    • meeghan

It’s still the same!! I’m just being a purist as Feist always wanted it to be one book and his publishers split it back in the day, but now it’s been republished as one novel. The next two novels are quite short (comparatively), but you can read Magician as a stand-alone novel.

  • Sofii @ A Book. A Thought.

YAY! I LOVE your answers ❤️ Super happy that you enjoyed doing the Tag & OMG same on The Night Circus, it has been recommended to me so many times it’s ridiculous lol, I have to read it soon. ?
    I hope you’re having a great month! ?✨

I’m curious what you’ll think of The Night Country, I’m kind of on the fence about it, not sure if I should read/buy it. I saw the same thing happen to my mom during her home office period – they’ve recently switched back to going to the office, though – and I experienced something kind of similar with uni. There’s something, I don’t know, uncomfortable in uni – besides homework and studying – “moving” to my room. (Also, video conferences are awful.) Thanks a lot for tagging me, Meeghan! 🙂

Hey! So I finally finished The Night Country last night… The whole thing was just kind of ‘meh’. I guess if you liked The Hazel Wood you’d probably like this, but I just don’t enjoy her endings. (But maybe it’s me!!)

  • Marie

Ahh The Night Circus! I’d be so, so curious to hear your thoughts on that one. It took me a little while to get to reading it, but I really enjoyed it 🙂
    Happy reading! <3

  • Rukky @ Eternity Books

I really love the cover of The Night Country!! It’s so so pretty ? Haha, I love reading, blogging, and sleeping as well! Even though, not really napping because I can’t sleep during the day. Unless I’m sick, I just can’t go to bed during the day and fall asleep. But I love sleeping for 12 hrs straight at night loll. Good luck with A Question of Holmes (its cover is also gorgeousss!!) Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!!

    • meeghan

Thanks Rukky!! The cover is really pretty.
I wish I could nap better during the day, or even sleep better at night!! Work is definitely keeping me up lately. Hope you’re getting lots of 12 hour night sleeps!! ?

I love Melina Marchetta so much. I grew up reading her contemporary novels, and Looking for Alibrandi is still one of my all-time favourites.
