The Sims book tag

? A long, long time ago
I can still remember how
That music used to make me smile… ?
Jokes. I mean, it was a while ago, but not like American Pie time length!
Back in September LAST YEAR (ok, maybe that is American Pie length of time), the lovely Hanna at Hanna Reads tagged me in The Sims book tag! Which I not-very-secretly loved, because I am one of those people who still actually play The Sims!
Although we’re up to The Sims 4 now, with like 25 expansion and stuff packs, and it’s nothing like the original was (thank goodness), and I’m currently playing with like the great-great-grandchildren of my original sims in this set… Anyway, you don’t need to hear about my Sims – except that all their surnames are Weasley because I started off with a Ginny who did NOT marry Harry, and then proceeded to run through twins Fred and George – both still alive; but subsequent generations have evolved into twins of Rowan and Rhysand, and MANY other bookish names… Hit me up if you want to be friends on EA/Origin though, because I don’t know anyone in IRL who plays this (only bookish people).
Anyway… back to the tag! Sorry it took me so long to do this Hanna! I wanted to take my own screenshots of the game to go with the books… and then I fell into a Sims vortex… And yes, the TWO pictures below are from my Sims game!

The Original Sims | The best author debut

The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli. I mean, I could list 100’s (may do a post on this…), but this one is REALLY up there for me. It’s so good. And I’m dying to read the last book in the trilogy!!

The Grim Reaper | The saddest character death

A screenshot of the Sims where a Sim is stargazing with the Grim Reaper
I don’t know about you guys, but I always go stargazing with the Grim Reaper…

Oooof… this is hard. On one hand, I’m still not over Fred (or Sirius, Dobby, Hedwig, Mad-Eye, etc.)… buuuuuuut on the other hand, Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo is a killer. Literally.

Sims getting stuck | A character that got in the way

RON WEASLEY. There, I said it. I hate Ron. He should have died and Hermione should have married Fred. (I could write a whole essay on why this makes more sense… but I shall not bore you with this today. (Sorry to those of you who do the Romione thing… or just genuinely like Ron, but he annoys me.) I will say that I did like him at the start of the series, but I genuinely did not care for him once we were at Deathly Hallows stage.

Simlish | A book with amazing writing

Basically any book written by Maggie Stiefvater, but, let’s go with my all time fave, The Scorpio Races, because apparently I don’t shout about it enough. (You’re welcome.)

Expansion packs | A series where the books kept on getting better

Can I scream a little bit about Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead here, please?! I truly believe this series does not get the love that it deserves. I will admit that I saw the movie before I started the books – and I didn’t hate it. But the books are AMAZING. Books 1-2 are fantastic. Books 3-5 are brilliant. And book 6 is phenomenal. (Like, I think 1 and 5 are my lowest rated at 4 stars.) Highly recommend. And, in case you’re wondering, I read it for the first time almost 2 years ago, so I wasn’t a starry-eyed teenager.

Sims romance | The worst case of insta-love

A screenshot of two sims kissing
Kissy-kissy! (Yes, I am a child…)

I have to put this out there (although I 100% agree with Hanna’s choice of Twilight), but I have to say City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. Clary and Jace kind of made me shake my head because I didn’t really understand what the hell was going on. And then when they thought they were siblings… and STILL?! Uhhh… no, thanks. You kids need to calm down.

Cheats | A book that was entirely unrealistic

*think Meeghan… and stop thinking of fantasy novels – they’re supposed to be unrealistic…*
I’mma take a hard pass on this one, because I love all the contemporary books that I can think of, so I don’t care that they’re unrealistic.

Need fulfillment | A character who made all the wrong decisions

Ummm, like, all of them?! That’s how plot and character growth is made!! But one that will probably annoy me more than most is little miss Lara Jean Song Covey from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han (although more so in books 2 and 3).

Error code 12 | A series that started off great, but went downhill from there

The Corinna Chapman series by Kerry Greenwood. Earthly Delights is one of my fave mystery / crime novels, and by The Spotted Dog I just could not care less about the characters. It’s ruined for me now. RUINED!

Sims vortex | A book / series that completely engrossed you

The last book that I read in one sitting was 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne, so this one wins this category! And if you’ve ever thought you were ‘lesser’ than a sibling, please do yourself a favour and read this.

A CHARACTER DIES IN CROOKED KINGDOM????? WHATTTT??????? No don’t answer that, I’m going to read it sometime soon, but WHAT???? I think I’ve already seen that on GR somewhere, but I still can’t get over it. What??? How am I supposed to survive it??? I’m not gonna say what again but ???? I don’t even like Nina or Matthias much, but they still have to stay. Kaz and the rest are non-negotiable ??

SIMS!! Thanks for tagging me! We’re not going to talk about Crooked Kingdom, ok ? I’ve got Six of Crows audiobook scheduled for a later month (I really want to read King of Scars and need to read the others to remember).
FINALLY!! Someone else who doesn’t like Ron either!! He’s one of my least favourite characters ??‍♀️??‍♀️
    Yes for VA!!! It’s excellent!
Yeah, Jace and Clary are ?? indeed. Like I love The Mortal Instruments, but they are not my favourite couple.

I’ve probably asked this before but because you mention TVA… What did you think about Bloodlines? I might’ve enjoyed The Vampire Academy in my teens but Bloodlines remains to be one of my favorite YA books ever. Can I just have Adrian Ivashkov for myself and maybe get Hopper too?

I used to pay the Sims a lot, but sadly, I don’t have it anymore, in part because the Sims 4 was so disappointing for me. *hides* But I’m happy you love the Sims still! The death in Crooked Kingdom was brutal – it came so unexpectedly for me, and even though it happened to the character who was my least favorite from the MCs, I was still devastated. I read City of Bones when I was a teen, and I shipped Jace and Clary so damn much, which makes me mortified now. I don’t much care for Cassandra Clare, and part of the reason for that her incestuous romance for teens was not it… particularly not when she had them making out while thinking they were siblings… yuck. Great answers, Meeghan!

Thanks Veronika!! And it’s ok to like different things as you get older. It’s part of what changes us as people and how we grow!! I also loved TMI to begin with. But the whole “you can see me so I’m going to possibly endanger your life by drawing on you” thing really threw me once I thought about it. And yes, the siblings storyline felt like a poorly delivered soap opera plot line!! ?
