The Coffee Book Tag
Good morning bookworms!
A few weeks ago I was tagged by the delightful JR Lynn @ Eternity Books to do the Coffee Book Tag. You should definitely go check out her blog – it’s super cuuuuute! Also, this tag gives me super conflicting feels because:
- I LOVE COFFEE ?
- I’m not allowed to drink coffee any more ?
WHY??? The universe is conspiring against me… Ha! (Actually, it’s about my health and not eating/drinking things that cause hypersensitive gastrocolic reflex – which is a really fancy way of saying it causes my bowel disease to go have a mini flare and I hate my life for a couple of hours/days.)
Now that I’ve divulged unnecessary content, let’s get to the BOOKS part of the post! ?
Black Coffee | Name A Series That’s Tough To Get Into But Has Hardcore Fans:
Uhhh, the Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo. I still haven’t finished reading the first 3 books (mostly Shadow and Bone). But I need to because I LOVED Six of Crows. And I want to be a diehard Grishaverse fan. (Also, I promised Sofii I would read them and I haven’t forgotten!!)
Peppermint Mocha | Name A Book That Gets More Popular During the Winter or A Festive Time of Year:
There’s probably a lot, but every November I see all of the TBRs stacked with The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater. The first line (appropriately), is:
It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die.
If that isn’t an introductory line to put this book on your November TBR, then I don’t know what is.
Hot Chocolate | What Is Your Favorite Children’s Book?
The book I buy for all our nieces and nephews is Guess How much I Love You by Sam McBratney, but if we’re talking about a book that I love… I guess it would be George and Matilda Mouse and the Floating School by Heather S. Buchanan (see? I was a nerd Ravenclaw even when I was 4).
Double Shot of Espresso | Name A Book That Kept You On the Edge Of Your Seat From Start to Finish:
The entire All For the Game trilogy by Nora Sakavic. I read all three books (The Foxhole Court, The Raven King and The King’s Men) in under of 48 hours.
Starbucks | Name A Book You See Everywhere:
At the moment, it’s Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. That’s not a bad thing though. I’m going to the first book launch for it this coming Tuesday!! (Yes, that is prior to release.)
The Hipster Coffee Shop | Give A Book By An Indie Author A Shout Out:
I’m doing TWO because I can, and you can’t stop me.
- If you like supernatural stuff, go read Marked For the Hunt by Leah Chiasson
- If you like epic fantasy, go read The Sons of Thestian by M. E. Vaughan
Oops! I Accidentally Ordered Decaf | Name A Book You Were Expecting More Of:
Autoboyography by Christina Lauren. I was expecting this epic love story that was going to break my heart into a million pieces … and it just … didn’t?
The Perfect Blend | Name A Book Or Series That Was Both Bitter And Sweet, But Ultimately Satisfying:
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. It had this amazing bittersweet and innocuous ending… but I loved it.
Green Tea | Name A Book Or Series That Is Quietly Beautiful:
Emergency Contact by Mary H. K. Choi. I will never shut up about this book. I loved it and all its introvertedness. I love Penny and Sam’s relationship. This book is perfect in about 16,000 ways.
Chai Tea | Name a Book Or Place Series That Makes You Dream Of Far Off Places:
I mean, I live in Australia, so basically everything is a ‘far off place’. But probably The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. They make me want to go visit more of Wales and find ley lines and then discover Cabeswater and make magic.
Earl Grey | Name Your Favorite Classic:
It’s been so long since I read a classic… but probably The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen. I love that it doesn’t have a happy ending (although I was traumatised by the original version when I was a smol child).

I read tfc in the exact same span of time, imagine how strong a person would have to be in order to read the series responsibly and reasonably???????? i can’t achieve that spiritual discipline
Meeghan reads
??? I don’t even think I know what discipline is?? Malanie, you’re the best! ?

Thank you for the tag! Great answers – I don’t drink coffee but I’ll try my best with all of the questions!

HAHA I seem to have tagged all the non-coffee drinkers!!
Kathy @ Pages Below the Vaulted Sky
Oooh this is a fun one, thank you!! My definition of coffee nowadays is 60% milk + 30% whipped cream + 10% coffee, so I don’t know if I would call myself a coffee drinker? ? And I’ve been eyeing Sons of Thestian for a while so I should probably get on that!
Meeghan reads
OMG YES PLEASE GO READ THE SONS OF THESTIAN IT’S AMAZING!!!!!!!!
J R Lynn
Great to see you doing the tag and thank you so much for the compliment ❤❤❤ Sorry that you can’t have coffee but tea is amazing as well!! I’d go for black with a little milk any day! I’m also eyeing Emergency Contact since you love it so much!

Arghhh!! You must read it (especially if you’re an introvert)!! xx

Thank you so much for tagging me! I think I’ve done this tag but a while back so I am very excited to redo it with new answers. I loved your answers. I feel you about wanting to get into the Grishaverse. I tried reading Shadow and Bone maybe a month or two ago. I couldn’t get into it. I might try again at some point. I just found I wasn’t paying attention to what was happening. I didn’t’ get far. I really want to read Six of Crows but I’ve been worried about picking it up before the Grishaverse books. Hopefully soon I will try those.

I’ve read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, apparently they are different characters so you should be fine!! But I have heard they are better than S&B (and co) so maybe it is best to start with her older books?!

Marked for the hunt has such a pretty cover!

I also loved Eleanor & Parks so much xx Eventually planning to read Emergency Contact ..
