The Birthday book tag

Good afternoon bookworms!
No WWW Wednesday today because nothing has changed since last week!!
However, it is my birthday today!! (For those of you on the other side of the planet, by ‘today’, I mean 19 June.) And to celebrate turning the ripe old age of 36 (yup, I can’t believe I’m admitting it either), I am doing this tag that I have seen floating around recently.

There’s also an update from our move (and my
new LIBRARY) below if you want to see!!

BIRTHDAY CAKE – A book with a plot that seems cliche but you adore it anyway

100% new favourite The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. It’s an enemies to lovers office romance and I finished it a couple of weeks ago, and just CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT IT. I’m not even ‘low-key’ obsessed any more.

PARTY GUESTS – Your most anticipated book release this year

Would this even be a post if I didn’t mention Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff? (Yes, I have preordered both the UK and US covers…) Although, The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black is not far behind this one!!

BIRTHDAY PRESENTS – A book that surprised you with how much you loved it

The Nevermoor series by Jessica Townsend blew my mind. When I heard it was for lovers of HP I’m always dubious, but this might even be better!! (You heard it here first people!)

THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG – A book that certainly deserved all the hype it got

I know not everyone loves The Folk of the Air series by Holly Black, but I love it. The Cruel Prince was an anticipated read last year, and I devoured The Wicked King in January as soon as it was released. All I can say is bring on November!!

HAPPY MUSIC – A book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes

I’m trying not to double up here (and I know this post is looking a lot like my Top 10 faves of all time!!) but if I can’t use Nevernight, then I am 100% using Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Boys.
Two of my fave quotes:

“Is this thing safe?”
“Safe as life,” Gansey replied.”

She recognized the strange happiness that came from loving something without knowing why you did, that strange happiness that was sometimes so big that it felt like sadness.

For more beautiful quotes from this series, go check out this Goodreads thread. (But be careful because as it’s quotes from the book there may be spoilers!!)

SWEET BIRTHDAY MEMORIES – A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life

I definitely needed to read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor at the time I did. I was super stressed and upset about some things that had happened at work. They also pushed a complete and utter joy of reading YA into my life.

MOVE UPDATE!!

We moved. Also, I finally got my room sorted last night, so to experience the joy of having my own personal library space on my birthday was probably the greatest gift of all. I’ve put some pics on Instagram, but I’ll add them below for you to see (plus a bonus because my armchair arrived as well)!! ?

Photo of my desk with the view from the window behind it.
View from my desk

One wall of bookshelves that is to the left of my desk.
Books on the left

The other wall of books that is on the right of my desk.
Books on the right

My super squishy reading armchair that is next to one of the shelves.
Super squishy reading chair

The books haven’t been organised… that’s for another day when I don’t have to cart 16 tonnes of cardboard downstairs to our recycling and unpack more boxes… But I’m thinking rainbow shelves?!
Anyway, if you’re still with me, THANK YOU for all your support the last couple of weeks while I’m trying to get some semblance of order back in my life. I love you guys – you’re the reason I’m still blogging away!!

Oh my God, happy Birthday Meeghan. I didn’t know our birthdays are just a week apart. My birthday’s next week, and I’ll try to do this tag too. hehe.
Also Hating Game… It was my reason too, it’s too cliche and yet I LOVE it.

Happy birthday!? your office looks so peaceful, I would love to spend all of my time in there! and I agree with rainbow shelves 100%, they would look beautiful!?

  • Caitlin @ Caitlin Althea

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! i hope you’re enjoying/enjoyed your special day! and your bookshelves and house look so good! i want my house to look like that someday ?? also, i cant wait to finally read Nevernight. i don’t know why i haven’t picked it up yet ughhh. and i plan on listening to nevermoor on audio. i’m excited because it sounds like the perfect middle grade fantasy!! though i heard that the author plans on it being an eight book series, and i’m someone who sucks at keeping up with sequels, especially unreleased sequels, so i’m a bit hesitant :’) anyways, i loved reading all of your answers to this tag and happy birthday again ??

Naww, thank you Caitlin!! Haha, I heard Nevermoor was going to be 9 books, so 8 is definitely feasible for me. But also so worth it! Number 3 is out in February so if you want to wait until then I can let you know if the third is worth the effort, but the first and second ARE amazing. I can vouch for that!!
I commend you for waiting to read Nevernight. The cliffhanger in Godsgrave is brutal, and I was lucky enough to get an ARC so I feel like I’ve been waiting 100 years to get to Darkdawn. Definitely save yourself some pain on that one!!! ?

Aahh, it’s still the 19th for me here but I know it’s not for you so I’ll just say happy belated birthday!!! ?? Your library looks SO nice and it looks like a space I’d love to have in the future (your shelves are so pretty!). And I know a lot of people anticipating Darkdawn, but I read the first 40ish pages of Nevernight and couldn’t make myself keep reading ? I’m glad you’re so excited about it though!!

It’s definitely an acquired taste book!! The footnotes can make it hard, and the back and forth for the first part of the book add that extra level of intense.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! ?
I love this tag, the prompts are so much fun (that’s why I did it for my birthday earlier this year, lol) and I love your answers! I’ve only read TCP, TRC, and half the DSB trilogy, but I’ve heard great things about all the others.
that view is gorgeous and the bookshelves are *goals*, omg. I hope your birthday was a good day and that unpacking continues to go well!

Thanks love!! My birthday was great, we finished the day with an amazing meal at a Chinese restaurant, and then went for frozen custard swirls (omg yum).
You should definitely read the rest of the DSB trilogy!! *it’s VERY found family ?*

Happy belated birthday, Meeghan!!! Hope you had awesome food and awesome company! And your library looks SO cool, holy crap. I love that there’s a full length mirror on the other wall. <3 I still need to read books 2 and 3 of TRC, and I'm hoping to finish them before the first Ronan book drops, but we'll see!
And UGH the UK cover for Darkdawn is so pretty it makes me mad.

    • Meeghan reads

Thanks Kathy!! The mirror is the wardrobe doors so it works well and makes the room feel bigger, which is nice!
      Don’t forget book 4!! There’s 4 books in TRC!!
And yes!! I prefer the UK covers for Nevernight. I just love the art in them. I’ve started following the artist on Instagram because I’m so in love with it!! He actually designed some shoes a while ago and I’ve been thinking about buying them!!

      • Kathy @ Pages Below the Vaulted Sky

*Smacks head* OOPS, I meant to say books 3 and 4 of TRC. XD I read the Dream Thieves last year and loved it! Ronan’s so damn fascinating. I just want to put him under a microscope and study him (which isn’t at all creepy).
And oooh a cover artist who also designs shoes?? I need to go find him now!

Let's chat!
