Sunshine Blogger Award #9

Good morning bookworms!

I know today would normally be Top 5 Tuesday, but Shanah is on a mini hiatus while she has the best sounding break – so I thought, “why don’t I try and catch up on some tags?!” So, the lovely Siobhan @ Siobhan’s novelties tagged me in the Sunshine blogger award back in June! (I mean, I’m kind of catching up?!)

Questions from Siobhan
What book was your last one-star or five-star review?

My last five star review was The Bride Test by Helen Hoang!! (I had some graphic novels in between, but this was the last novel.)

Which book was your first ARC?

Oooh, my VERY FIRST ARC!! I don’t even think I really knew what ARC was back then, but it was Stiletto by Daniel O’Malley. It’s the sequel to The Rook.

What genre do you want to read more of but don’t get the chance?

I think it’s probably less “I don’t get the chance” and more “I haven’t been feeling it lately”, but that’s fantasy. It’s my one true love (after the Husband) and I think I just need to read an amazing one to snap me out of my funk!!

Who’s your favourite secondary character?

At the moment? I’m back on the Baz Pitch bandwagon, after recently finishing Wayward Son. Simon Snow is definitely the star, but Baz is who I love most.

What is your favourite read of this year?

There have been too many to choose from, but one I haven’t screamed about for a while is The Boy Who Steals Houses by C. G. Drews. It’s a gender-bent Goldilocks retelling in a contemporary setting and it’s #ownvoices autism and anxiety rep. And it’s filled with caramel, brownies and glitter. It’s amazing.

What book format do you dislike the most?

Audiobooks… I’m sorry!! I have tried and tried, but I just don’t have the attention span for them to work for me. The only time they work is when I am concentrating on driving, but not in heavy traffic. Otherwise I kind of just… stop listening because I get distracted or so wrapped up in my thoughts about something else!!

Which series do you want to read but are hesitant of starting?

AH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. There’s a list.

  • Shades of Magic – V. E. Schwab
  • Caraval – Stephanie Garber
  • The Dark Artifices – Cassandra Clare
  • Carve the Mark – Veronica Roth
  • Red Rising – Pierce Brown
  • An Ember in the Ashes – Sabaa Tahir
  • The Bone Witch – Rin Chupeco
  • The Lady Janies – Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows
  • The Lumatere Chronicles – Melina Marchetta
  • The Starbound Trilogy – Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
  • Spellslinger – Sebastien de Castell
  • Silo series – Hugh Howey

Just so you guys know, I own all the books out in these series, but haven’t read any of them. It’s embarrassing!!

What adaptation do you love watching but haven’t read the series yet?

The only one I can think of is… Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan.

What book do you desperately need to read?

I actually need to read A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab because I am playing the Bookish Games again this month, and the game is based on this book!!
For a book that I desperately WANT to read, I’d go with The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black.

If you could have just one more sequel, what would it be?

Oooh, tough!! Maybe Captive Prince by C. S. Pacat?! I could read about what comes next any time!!

Who is your favourite villain?

I don’t know that ‘favourite’ is the right term, but Ariel from Obernewtyn by Isobelle Carmody certainly stands out as being pure evil a lot of the time… He definitely caused some of my favourites a lot of pain – physically and emotionally.
