September 2021 wrap up
Hello bookworms!! It’s time for the September 2021 wrap up. FINALLY!!
Remember how we were catching up on things?? And it was all going so well?? And then I somehow broke my blog, and couldn’t post for over a week because I couldn’t even access it?? Yeah. That was a time. So, it looks like I did jinx myself. But hopefully we can’t do that more than once per month!! Also, I am totally backdating these posts… no regrets!!
So, keep your fingers crossed that I will continue to achieve a regular posting schedule for the rest of the year, including catching up on all my posts from the last 2 weeks. And with that in mind, let’s look at what I did in September!!
September 2021 wrap up
So, after my June to August horrible reading slump and only reading 9 books total, I am PLEASED to announce that in September, I read 9 books (although 3 of them were graphic novels…). Which means that I went from being 11 books behind on my Goodreads goal, to 9 books behind. Oooft. Still a lot of catching up to do!!

the faves
Honestly, this was SUCH a good reading month. Although, I totally have to admit that I got suckered in and read a stupid online serial. I didn’t even like it (and the writing was so bad), but I wanted to see how it ended… Story of my life lately. (*cough* FBAA *cough*)
BUT, I still had FIVE 5-star reads, which is amazing. They were all amazing in their own way.
- The Heart Principle broke me. I cried so hard while read it โ about as much as I cried while reading The Bride Test, so Helen Hoang is clearly toying with my heartstrings. But such a beautiful, although heart-wrenching, story. And I just love Quan even more.
- The Road Trip by O’Leary was also brilliant. I cried for Addie and Dylan and their past, but the story also had this rom-com feel about it. It was really well done.
- I finally got to King of Scars and Rule of Wolves โ BOTH were amazing, and I loved the ending so much. It felt very less ‘goodbye’ and more ‘see you later’, so fingers crossed we will see them again!!
- And then there was Lakesedge. The book that inspired me to actually finish my first review of the year. I loved it SO MUCH. I hope everyone reads this book.
We were in lockdown for the whole of September… so I did nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just worked and existed in our apartment, with the kitties.
gaming
Actually, I played a LOT of The Sims 4. Like, almost 100 hours. I’m really enjoying the Cottage Living expansion pack, even though I haven’t finished the challenge connected to the expansion. But having a cow / llama and chickens on your lot is a LOT of fun. (Hahaha โ no, I’m not sorry for that.)
We skipped a couple of weeks or moved dates around in some of the D&D campaigns, so I actually only played the new campaign in September. I’m playing a half orc barbarian, Rozira, in this one. She is my first melee character, and I’m having heaps of fun with this too. Her voice is very grating, with a deep Aussie accent โ she sounds super bogan โ and I’m having a ball playing this, kind of dumb, big, brutish character. Also, I said in May-June that I made digital minis of characters on Hero Forge, so this is Rozira!
tv and movies
So, continuing the MCU (+ other Marvel based movies) rewatch I’ve been doing with my friends, in September we watched:
- Falcon and the Winter Soldier
- Loki season 1
- Spider-Man
- Spider-Man 2
and god help us allย Spider-Man 3
Now, before anyone gets uppity at me, I am well aware that the truly horrible Spider-Man movies that star Tobey Maguire are not part of the MCU. Thank god. BUT, if you know anything about the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, then you’ll know why I’ve been pushing my friends to watch them (or rewatch them in terror, as the case may be). I am also going to force them to watch the Garfield Amazing Spider-Man films, and the new Tom Hardy Venom ones as well. For REASONS.
Other things I watched:
- Sex Education season 3
- Once Upon a Time season 1
- The White Queen miniseries
- Star Wars Visions
- What If…? ep4-8
- New Amsterdam season 3
Honestly, the far reduced number of things I watched is probably how I managed to read equal the last three months combined… Oops?!!
Top 5 Tuesday for September was not themed at all. We kind of had a mish-mash of a month. But it was still fun!! Topics were top 5:
And that was pretty much all I posted in September… Actually, that’s a lie. I started my plan to write at least 1 discussion or recommendation post per month. And I started it with 15 books that I’m currently reading. Pleased to say that I have finished FOUR books from that list!!
So, I am caught up on blog-hopping!! WOOT!! I don’t know for how long, because I am a terrible person who never seems to learn her lesson…
Recommendation lists:
- Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books gave us 10 YA books without romance
- Jayati @ Itโs Just a Coffee Addicted Bibliophile listed 7 dark academia reads
- Nyx @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books wrote about 10 guilty pleasure reads to cosy up to
Discussion posts:
- Charvi @ It’s Not Just Fiction wrote a post on coming up with content for posting
- Veronica @ Wordy and Whimsical gave us some tips on defeating our reading slumps!
- Becks @ The Punk Theory did a movie (2005) vs book comparison for Pride and Prejudice
- Charvi @ It’s Not Just Fiction also talked about missing her reading life from before the online book community
Reviews:
- Bron @ Bookish Bron reviewed The Deep End by Aussie author, Jenna Guillaume
- Meaghan @ Hail and Well Read reviewed The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe
- Jayati @ It’s Just a Coffee Addicted Bibliophile reviewed The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake (finally!!)
- Bron @ Bookish Bron also reviewed Dark Rise by Aussie author, C. S. Pacat
- And, Meaghan @ Hail and Well Read also reviewed Lakesedge by debut Aussie author, Lyndall Clipstone (and I know I shared my review for Lakesedge, but it’s so good to see more reviews for this book!!)
How was your September?

I’m happy to hear that you had such a good reading month! I also loved King of Scars, but sadly haven’t been able to read the sequel yet. I’m pleased to see that you loved it as much as the first book ๐ฅฐ

I LOVE Nikolaiโs story. Itโs so good. And Rule of Wolves is just as amazing!! I donโt understand why people didnโt love this duology โ itโs got such weird ratingsโฆ

Way behind the times on this, but so glad to see you liked Rule of Wolves! I thought it was such a satisfying “ending” to the duology, and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
