September '19 wrap up, Bookending Autumn, and finally doing my NEWTs!

Good morning bookworms! It’s time for the September wrap-up!

During September I read 8 books, and finished some series, which, is basically unfathomable. I think I’m still in shock that the Nevernight Chronicle is truly over. However, they were all really great books!!

This is going to be a mild surprise, but I think my favourite book for this month goes to Bloodlust and Bonnets by Emily McGovern. I will be writing a full review on it, but the intricacies of the story, the characters, and the graphics are amazing. How Emily can convey a person’s emotion when they don’t have mouths is absolutely incredible.

Well, I’m doing my NEWTs, which was its own post that you can read HERE! I will give you a quick rundown of the books though, but we also have the Of Wonderland book club theme for October: impulse purchases… which… is like 90% of my bookshelves ?

I kind of took a mini unanticipated hiatus towards the end of the month. I was doing a couple of things: playing the Sims being the most obvious… but I was also traveling for work, getting sick, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, getting ready for Bookending Autumn!
That’s right, friends! In case you have totally missed my screaming, I was selected to be a host for Bookending Autumn, and my host days are October 8-11. However, as you may have already seen, I’ll be doing lots of other people’s prompts – as many as I can (the horror book ones will likely be the only ones that I miss), and you can join in the fun too: there are instructions on the post linked above.
I also continued my Overwatch characters recommendations series. I don’t know why, but I am having the most fun ever writing these!! I should probably do more book recommendation posts, but the reasoning behind why I’m recommending certain books is just giving me a lot of enjoyment to write!
I also changed up my book review format, and I think I like it much better. I trialled it with the review for Midnight Beauties by Megan Shepherd, and it was much more fun to write than a ‘normal’ review. I also made some new banner / headers for it! Please let me know what you think!!

There were some pretty amazing posts out there this month!! These are some of my faves that I saw:

  • Kristina @ Books and Dachshunds wrote about the pressure of missing posting. If you have ever struggled with blogging, or feel like it’s becoming a chore, this is the post for you!!
  • Aly @ Of Wonderland wrote a post about if vampire books are making a come-back (and OMG I hope they do, but really destructive ones, not the sparkly kind)!
  • Meaghan @ Words Gremlin does a Friday Funsies post, which is basically as addictive as crack. Or chocolate (if you need a more PG13 comparison). Anyway, my fave ones at the moment are Tropes I Love and Advice to Beat a Reading Slump which was EXCELLENT. (Now, I know the second one was in August, but due to being several weeks behind book blogging, I didn’t read it until September…)
  • Clo @ Book Dragons’ Novel Newcomers series featured Alex @ Scribbles and Stories, and they created a Myers Briggs type test for READERS!! It’s so good!! (And for anyone wondering, I’m an ECFA.)
  • Olivia @ Purely Olivia made a Harry Potter obsession rankling post!! And it was #goals!! I would rank myself about a 7.8 on it!!
  • Siobhan @ Siobhan’s Novelties crawled inside my head and wrote about why it’s so hard to write book reviews!! The only thing missing is that I am an EXCELLENT procrastinator!!
  • Katie @ Never Not Reading wrote a post about how reading books with characters that don’t look like you matters!!

September was an ok month. I mean, apart from the getting sick and migraines part (that was not so great), but the work trip was fun, and I enjoyed all the books I read!
I also reached out to another publishing house in Australia and made some more contacts – and they sent me the book I requested to review (review coming this week) so I’m hoping that I can build that relationship a bit more.
And finally, after living in a house with many test patches of different shades of grey (we weren’t quite at 50, but we were getting close), the Husband and I went and picked up carpet samples to see if that could help us nail down a colour – and it did! We have FINALLY picked a colour and a carpet to match it!! This is a huge milestone for us!!

What did you do in September?
