October 2021 book haul

Hello bookworms!! Welcome to the October 2021 book haul!! A monthly post where I usually shame myself for never achieving my goal of buying less than I read, or sticking to my buying goal.

And October was an interesting month… Because I read 13 books and I hauled 13 books. I had a bunch of preorders come in, which I had completely forgotten about. And the only book box I received had a double book. So, it should have been better than it was, but here we are.

In case you aren’t aware (which, fair, because I never made an announcement post, although I do mention this every month) my goal for each month is to only purchase 7 books, split between purchased books and books from book boxes. So, 7 paid books in total. But also I need to read more books than I collect each month, including review books. So it’s kind of a 2-part goal. That I very rarely meet. But, rules are made to be broken!! When it comes to book hauling anyway…

So, let’s go see the books I hauled in October!!

October 2021 book haul

Book haul categories are as follows:

• subscription boxes
• book purchases (book mail, in-store and ebook*)
• review copies (book mail, digital and gifts)

* Not counting Kindle Unlimited

I subscribe to three monthly boxes: OwlCrate (which I sometimes skip and sometimes swap to OwlCrate Jr), FairyLoot and the book-only subscription for Illumicrate. I also subscribe to the quarterly book-only option for LitJoy. Plus I sometimes buy the special edition books they put out, but only if I loved the series, or I got the special edition of book 1 as part of the monthly box.

So, here is where I’m up to as at the end of August:

• 💟 = arrived in a previous month
• ✅ = arrived this month
• 🚚 = in transit
• ➡️ = skipped
• 🅿️ = parked (not out yet)
• ❎ = did not switch to
• ❌ = confirmed that it was lost to the mail gremlins (but thankfully refunded)

All of which means, I got my September FairyLoot box in October (and I’m currently fighting with AusPost over my OwlCrate box). So, September’s FairyLoot box had TWO books:

• Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer
• Bonus book: Beasts of Prey by Ayana Gray

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you may have noticed that my copy of Midnight Sun has arrived. It’s a very special copy. My friend Sarah (@commasandampersands) annotated this for me. And she held a press conference about it because she genuinely dislikes the book. I’m… interested to see what happens, but also, there’s about 300 other books on my TBR that I probably want to read first. Let’s be honest, Sarah did NOT make a compelling case to begin it immediately…

And thank goodness, no review books in October!! *phew*
