October ’19 book haul
Good afternoon bookworms!
Book haul categories are as follows:
- book boxes
- book purchases (book mail, instore and digital)
- review copies (book mail and digital), and
- bookish items (book related, but not actual books).
I subscribe to three monthly boxes: OwlCrate, FairyLoot and the book-only subscription for LitJoy. Here is what arrived in October:
- FairyLoot’s September theme was Witches be Crazy, and the book was Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin
- LitJoy’s September theme was Haunted Manor, and the book was A Treason of Thorns by Laura E. Weymouth
- FairyLoot’s October theme was Love at First Bite, and the book was The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh
- LitJoy’s October theme was Fallen Angel, and the book was Angel Mage by Garth Nix
I skipped my OwlCrate for October, but the theme was Dawn of a New World, and the books (yes, two) were Criers War by Nina Varela and I Hope You Get This Message by Farah Naz Rishi.
*cries because I don’t have enough time to read all of them…*

This month’s superstar is a tied effort between Rainbow Rowell and Richelle Mead at 4 books each. Rainbow wins though because her books were signed and personalised and it makes my little heart so happy!!
This is still good…ish?!

So… I’m not sure what’s going on with Allen and Unwin. I haven’t received a single book that I have requested since July, but I have been consistently sent crime/thrillers (which I have emailed them three times about because I don’t read them) and now children’s books. I have just sent in my requests for March, but honestly I’m not feeling too hopeful any more.
If anyone has read the first 21 books in the Harry Bosch series, please hit me up and I will send this one on – postage paid by me, open international.
So I know I said that I would share photos of ALL my pins… but it turns out that there’s an awful lot of them. Also, I’m expecting 5 more to arrive this month from a certain retailer, so I am sharing all my pins by three retailers today. They are:
- Four Seasons Fox – Sandra is based in France (website, instagram)
- Silke Tara – Silke is in Indonesia (website, instagram)
- Read and Wonder – Kim and Jess are in Australia (website, instagram)
So there’s a good mix of worldwide spread, and I’ve linked the shops and instagram accounts above too. As you can kind of see below (enamel pins are so hard to take photos of!!), there’s a good mix of characters, bookish things, and then just nerdy things. I’ll try and step them out below.

Sandra’s pins are such a lovely mix with some Harry Potter inspired (the Niffler and the Mandrake), plus the seasonal animals (fox with a flower crown – summer, raccoon with a flower crown – spring, and the fox with the berry crown – autumn). There’s also Totoro with a flower crown, a mermaid, a gingerbread fox (my fave Christmas pin ever), and some magical items with peonies (the fox witch, a cauldron, a crystal ball and the magic book).

Silke draws and writes the most amazing comic on her instagram (you can read it all by clicking on the Insignia link in her story highlights) and most of the pins here are her original characters. From left to right it’s: Argoz, Ortia, Kian, Iris, Olivier, and then Cif (my fave) and Esther. On the bottom row are Zelda and Link (Breath of the Wild edition) and a rainbow unicorn cow (just because).

Kim and Jess do some really amazing bookish pins. They have just general bookish items like the reader with the blue hair, the booklovers anonymous and the bookshop pin. They also do quote pins, the two here are Nevernight: You’ve Got Words in Your Soul; and ACOTAR: Be Glad of Your Human Heart. And just the other month they released the Bookish Babes set: Luna, Inej, Aelin, Mia, Jude (which you can bet I’ll be wearing on release day), and Feyre.
Next month I’ll do more pins!

I must admit, the merch isn’t new this month, but I have been very slack about showing it off this year!!

That’s really strange about Allen & Unwin! I wonder if they somehow have you confused with another blogger?

I’m not sure?! But I’ve emailed them about the thrillers and have been told they’ll stop, but every month I get 1-3 more. I’m just giving up at this stage.

Amazing haul! I really want to read so many of these! Especially serpent and dove, wayward son and angel mage 😀

Serpent and Dove and Wayward Son are both so amazing. I love the darker direction that Rowell took Wayward Son to. So good to explore something other than a HEA.
