May 2024 TBR

Hello friends!! Welcome to the May 2024 TBR. A post where I will attempt to intuit what I feel like reading for the month of May.

Ok… so, I still haven’t posted my quarterly wrap up yet, which I was planning to do in April. Or, like, any of the other posts I was planning on doing. But it’s fine. Everything is FINE. Nothing in my life is on fire… except the part where I hurt my back and now I can’t do anything, and I had to take a couple of days off work. Because it’s all fine. Just fine.

But, lack of blogging (still) aside, let’s figure out what the hell I’m reading in May. Including, the buddy read book of the month for Fictionally Sam’s Bookish Chaos Discord book club, and Sam’s new Discord, the Romance Revelry Society. Plus I also joined some book clubs on Fable. Not sure why. It’s not like I don’t have enough books to read already…

So, with all of the buddy reads, challenges I signed up for, and backlist books, and oh look, a new ARC is arriving in the mail, let’s build a TBR for May 2024. That I will probably ignore for moods.

May 2024 TBR

Ok, so last month I talked about how I did that experiment where I actually made a physical TBR pile in March. And my plan was to do it again in April. Well, I did not do that in April. And I failed. Well, I didn’t fail. I just completely forgot what was on my TBR. And so I only read 3.5 books from my TBR, and then 5 books not on my TBR. Which isn’t a ‘fail’… but it certainly didn’t help. However, I did read (most of) my book club picks. So that’s exciting!

Also, lol, I just went back and looked at how many books I read from my March TBR, you know, since I did so well (in my head). In March I started 3 books from my TBR (and 2 I had already started so that’s 5), but I only actually finished 2 of them that month (and a third in April, but I had taken it off my TBR). In February I started 2 (2 others I started in January), but only finished 1. And January was my best month, where I finished 5 books, and started and started another 3. So, it looks like I’m really good at starting books. Just less good at finishing them.

Obviously, I would like to tick off more of my 2024 challenge reads. The sticker reward system is definitely working so that’s nice. But my real aim for May is to FINISH a bunch of books I’ve already started. So, I’m going to categorise the books below into groups. I’m not expecting to get through 20 books, but given some of them are already over halfway, my plan is to make a concerted effort to get through a bunch of them. And I will TRY not to read outside of the list.

Covers should be Goodreads links. Hopefully.

Eep I’m sorry about your back!! I hope you feel better. I have chronic back pain and it is THE WORST. 😭

I need to come up with monthly TBRs now bc I have trouble finding what to read next after I finish a book. D: Anyway, I’ve only read Strange the Dreamer (beautiful, but kind of hard to get into) from your list. I’m mostly seeing titles that I need to read as well (The Bone Houses, Elise Kova’s adult books, Belladonna, and The House for Lost Things), so I’ll be waiting for your thoughts on those! Good luck!! <3

Yes, I agree about Strange being hard to get into!! I’ve had it on my shelves for years, and I’m not sure why I just couldn’t get into it!!

My May is full of readalongs and buddy reads. For readalong I’m also reading Serpents of Sky and Flame and for buddy reads I have Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi, Rhapsodic, Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning, The Favor by Suzanne Wright. For alone reads I’m planning to read Acotar from A Court of Mist and Fury to A Court of Silver Flames.

I hope you’re liking The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding. I remember really liking it years ago. Also how are you liking The Stolen Heir Duology? I’m considering rereading Cruel Prince and maybe starting this series.

Ooh, I think we’re buddy reading two together!! I’m enjoying the Stolen Heir, grown up Oak is fascinating!! But it’s no Cruel Prince. I did love the Darkest Part of the Forest though. All of Black’s fae books are good!!
      Prosper Redding is great too!!
