June 2022 book haul

Hello friends!! Welcome to the June 2022 book haul!! A post where I talk about all the books that I bought and received in the previous month.

June was… surprisingly low in book count ― which is awesome. Because I also didn’t read that many books. I started the month off strong, and then, well, life happened ― as it does ― and I stopped reading. However, as June is birthday month, I am anticipating that July will be higher than usual ― because I have a lot of parcels at the post office that I haven’t picked up yet.

This year there won’t be any shaming for buying excess than my haul goals. In saying that, my haul goals this year are to only buy books I will read immediately, so that’s a step in the right direction. The main goal for the year, is to buy less books than I read. I’m trying not to increase my TBR this year. 😓

So, let’s go see the books I hauled in June!!

June 2022 book haul

Book haul categories are as follows:

  • book boxes (monthly/quarterly subscription or special edition book boxes)
  • review copies (book mail, digital and gifts)
  • book purchases (book mail, in-store and ebook*)

* Not counting Kindle Unlimited

book boxes

I subscribe to a bunch of book boxes that I usually skip because 2022 is the year of cutting back.

And in June, I had three books arrive. My June FairyLoot (book-only adult sub) which was Her Majesty’s Royal Coven by Juno Dawson. And, not one, but two more copies of Book of Night by Holly Black ― the OwlCrate special edition and the Illumicrate May sub (book-only). You may think three copies of Book of Night is probably a bit overkill considering I have dubbed 2022 “the year of cutting back”. But, I have 5 copies of the entire The Folk of the Air series. Including How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories. So, it IS cutting back. Kind of.

Images below all link to the Instagram owner, and they all also flick through to naked hardcovers, etc. I really love the naked hardcover for Her Majesty’s Royal Coven ― it is stunning.

So… what does this all mean for my book buying limit for 2022? Well, I think I might have been counting things wrong. I ended up revising the numbers on my giant TBR spreadsheet and I think I confused myself…

I think this is what the numbers should actually be:

  • Commenced 2022 with physical TBR: 455
  • Increased physical TBR in 2022 by: 29
  • Subtotal physical TBR: 484
  • Read physical TBR: 20
  • TOTAL PHYSICAL TBR: 464
  • TBR variance: +9

So, +9 is actually not that bad. And there’s still a bunch of middle grade review books on there that I just need to decide if I’m going to read or not. (*cough* It’s probably a ‘not’. I just need to bite the bullet…)

What was in your June 2022 book haul?

until next time, happy reading! Meeghan xo
