July 2021 book haul

Hello bookworms!! Welcome to the July 2021 book haul!! A monthly post where I shame myself for never achieving my goal of buying less than I read, or sticking to my buying goal. Except in July, which is both, unprecedented and unexpected. In fact, this is going to be a pretty sad and sorry list…

June was my birthday month, so I usually get extra books in July as well, because international shipping is the pits. But… apparently I ordered all my birthday books early this year, because the only two I was still waiting for after June are pre-orders for November and December. Also, we’re in lockdown at the moment so no in-person book shopping. And the last two times I went to the bookstore to browse, I didn’t get anything anyway.

In case you aren’t aware (which, fair, because I never made an announcement post, although I do mention this every month) my goal for each month is to only purchase 7 books, split between purchased books and books from book boxes. So, 7 paid books in total. But also I need to read more books than I collect each month, including review books. So it’s kind of a 2-part goal.

So, let’s go see all the books I hauled in July!!

book boxes

I subscribe to three monthly boxes: OwlCrate (which I sometimes skip and sometimes swap to OwlCrate Jr), FairyLoot and the book-only subscription for Illumicrate. I also subscribe to the quarterly book-only option for LitJoy. Plus I sometimes buy the special edition books they put out, but only if I loved the series, or I got the special edition of book 1 as part of the monthly box.

So, here is where I’m up to as at the end of July:

  • ? = arrived in a previous month
  • ✅ = arrived this month
  • ? = in transit
  • ➡️ = skipped
  • ?️ = parked (not out yet)
  • ❎ = did not switch to
  • ❌ = confirmed that it was lost to the mail gremlins (but thankfully refunded)

So… no book box books in July!! Which is great news, because I probably have way too many coming in the next few months with all of the above special editions. And, I totally forgot to skip all the August boxes… Whoops?!
