July ’20 TBR: Pop Culture Readathon
Good morning bookworms!
So… this is a bit late, but there’s a reason for it. I completely forgot that I had intended on doing the Pop Culture Readathon this month. And because I forgot, my plan was to just reread the Mortal Instruments (which I have almost totally forgotten because the TV series has stolen what actually happened from my mind, and also it’s been YEARS β like, at least 6 β since I’ve read them), and then finally start get a start on the 10,000 other Shadowhunter books I am behind on.
However, now that Twitter has reminded me that I said I’d do this, let’s see if I can smash some books into the prompts for the board I chose!!
OK, so I chose (at the very start of June, which is why I forgot about it…) the Thrill Ride board. This is probably an interesting choice for me, because I always VEHEMENTLY say that I do not read horror or thriller books. Nor do I really watch movies in those genres. But you know what I did watch a lot of in the 90’s? Slasher teen creepy movies, which is a) probably what has scarred me for life, and b) basically covers all the below prompts!!
This board actually works really well with my shadowhunter reading, as I can shove some in that fit quite nicely, and I think I can fit in some graphic novels that I’ve had piling up as well to help hit as many prompts as I can. Because, you guessed it, I’m going to try and hit the whole board, not just a bingo!!

Now, obviously for some of these I am completely guessing, as I haven’t read them!! But I’ll try and update the sheet as I go so when we get to the end of the month I’ll be able to tell if I need to move them around or not…
I doubt very much that I will read all of these (especially Ninth House), but it’s a nice list and a good guide if I get stuck!!
What books are you reading in July?

Good luck with these Meeghan! It sounds like a nice way to get away from your comfort zone. And I’ve had Ninth House since last year but have been side eyeing it cause of all the content warnings lol
meeghan
Hahaha, hard same!! I preordered Ninth House, and it’s just been sitting on my shelves since it arrived, very untouched!!

Good luck with the readathon! I am participating too and I hope to read books that have been on my TBR for ages! I love The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices so I hope you’ll like them too! I did not know about Amulet but it sounds so great! Take a hint, Dani Brown and Fence are also on my TBR!

I’ve already read The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, this is a reread. But while I can remember most of the stuff from TID (Will, Tessa and Jem are the sweetest trio), I can barely remember TMI… ?

Best of luck on this reading challenge! I wanted to participate but I’ve been kind of in a slump, so I decided to skip it in the end. π Anyhow, I’m currently reading Take a Hint, Dani Brown and it’s such a good book so far, I’m really enjoying it. π Hope you’ll love all the books you picked!

Goodluck in this readathon!
I needed to go check the other boards, as this was not quite the pop culture I had imagined tbh xd and erm.. I barely know any of thoses ;-; Then again, as it’s 90’s movies and I’m from the middle of that decenie, growing up french (so probably missed on a LOT of thoses, we were not into english channels until I got older)
meeghan
Oh, I totally get that!! I’d be happy to let you know which movies they are all from if you’re interested?? x
Kristina
Thank you, thatβs really kind ? but iβm okay π few rings a bell but iβve only watched the blair witch project, ithink.
meeghan
Well it’s no trouble if you change your mind. Most of the prompts are doubled up, so there’s only like 8 movies!!
