Good Habits Reading Tag

Good morning bookworms!
Can I just start with a massive HI, and THANKS FOR COMING, especially after I accidentally haven’t posted since last Wednesday (which is my biggest disappearance this year). Unfortunately I was struck down with a horrible case of tonsillitis, and then because I was traveling for work I went home early, by plane, and managed to get a chest infection (yay suppressed immune system!), all this at the same time as having my period and horrible cramps, and then, to top it all off, my body gifted me with a migraine on Friday night, which lasted until Sunday morning. #blessed
As you can imagine, I have been a barrel of laughs this past week, and have done LITERALLY NOTHING except wallow in bed, nap, and play Stardew Valley when I could bring light near my eyes without wanting to hurl. I couldn’t watch TV as it was too loud and bright, and I couldn’t concentrate on reading books at all.
Anyway, that’s all done with now, and I am back, (hopefully) better than ever! I also realised on the plane on Wednesday afternoon, that DARKDAWN is out in bookstores in Australia TODAY, Monday 19 August. So what little I did read during my unintended absenteeism, was 150 pages of Nevernight (so much for my reread of the series prior to release)!! Despite not wanting to hear massive spoilers, I think I will continue this reread (ARC August is officially on hold for another couple of days) so that I can completely enjoy and appreciate the amazingness of this series before its epic (and likely blood-filled) conclusion.
However, none of this is why we are here today! So, without further ado, let’s start this tag!

Back in July, the lovely Ruqs @ Many Bookish Things tagged me in the Good Habits Reading Tag, and so I am here today to tell you about some of my good habits (this is likely to be short, so don’t worry about that excessively long intro)!

Rules

  • Tag and thank the person who nominated you (thanks Ruqs!)
  • List some of your good reading habits, the things you think you do well

I SUPPORT AUTHORS

For the most part, I try and support authors as much as possible. I am at a very fortunate place in my life where I can afford to purchase books and attend bookish events. If I really enjoyed an ARC I received, I will often purchase a finished copy of the book. If I loved a library book that I borrowed, I will purchase a copy for myself. If I am attending an event, I will often purchase a copy of a book the author has written (especially if I don’t already own one).
For other books I loved, I will buy copies for friends and family (my cousin texted me last night how much she loved Emergency Contact by Mary H. K. Choi), and if I can’t then I will scream from the rooftops about how much I love these books and force people to add these books to their TBRs.
On Instagram (my biggest platform) I try and feature self-published authors, indie authors, under-hyped authors, debut authors, and authors whose books don’t always get the screaming marketing release that they deserve. I have beta read so many amazing books and encourage the authors to keep going, cheering them on from the sidelines and helping in any way that I can. (I mean, I read the other books and scream about them as well, but I hope that I scream just as loudly about these ones.)
I’m also quite protective of wonderful authors who seem to get yelled at a lot because of decisions their publishers make. Authors don’t get to choose what countries they are published in, what languages their books are translated to, what pre-release merch is associated with their books, or what time special editions go on sale. When Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff got blasted by people (including some fellow Aussie’s) because the Goldsboro edition of Aurora Rising was kind of a shemozzle, or that the Memento pre-order was only available in the US (unless you pre-ordered a copy of AR through GC and their shipping was ABHORRENT), I was disgusted by the bookish community. Amie was about 8 months pregnant and is honestly just the sweetest person you have ever met, and the things people were writing to her were making me cry. And neither of them had any control over the Memento release or the Goldsboro website. This was not their fault and I got into a lot of arguments on their behalf with people.
I especially have a lot of pride for Aussie authors. I’m not really a patriotic person, but I can list you a whole lot of local authors* that I love and think deserve some more love in the world:

I mean, these are all without mentioning Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (who I am SURE that you’ve heard of). * Links are to Goodreads books that I have enjoyed by them. (That’s right – you don’t even have to listen to me screaming about them!)

So… this was a lot more of a rant than I was expecting to write! But, basically what I’m trying to say is that I don’t have a lot of good bookish habits, but I love supporting authors. In basically any way that I can.

What’s one of your bookish good habits?
