December 2022 book haul
Hello friends!! Welcome to the December 2022 book haul!! A post where I talk about all the books that I bought and received in the previous month. AND we get to find out if I met my TBR goal for the year…
December was not bad considering that it was a gift giving month. Which usually means a chunk of books. But, this year was pretty restrained. I only got eight physical books between book boxes, some light online shopping and gifts, and one ebook. And I read the ebook. π€¦ββοΈ (I’m starting to see a pattern here…)
In saying that, in 2022 there is no shaming for buying excess than my haul goals. However, my haul goals this year are to only buy books I will read immediately, so that’s a step in the right direction. The main goal for the year, is to buy less books than I read. And I’m trying not to increase my TBR this year. And, as per my now-normal, there is a round up of TBR increase/decrease at the end.
So, let’s go see the books I hauled in December!!
December 2022 book haul
Book haul categories are as follows:
- book boxes (monthly/quarterly subscription or special edition book boxes)
- review copies (book mail, digital and gifts)
- book purchases (book mail, in-store and ebook*)
* Not counting Kindle Unlimited
I subscribe to a bunch of book boxes that I usually skip because 2022 is the year of cutting back.
In December, I had four books arrive:
- The Luminaries by Susan Dennard (Illumicrate YA book only sub for November)
- The Ones We Burn by Rebecca Mix (FairyLoot YA book only sub for November)
- The Dragon’s Promise by Elizabeth Lim (FairyLoot special edition)
- The Ballad of Never After by Stephanie Garber (FairyLoot special edition)
As always, photos link through to photo owner’s instagram and show extra details such as sprayed/stenciled edges, custom end pages, naked hardcovers, reversible dust jackets, etc.
During November, I received four physical books, and bought one ebook.

I received zero review books in December!! YAY!! (Not that I’m not extremely grateful for review copies… I just have a lot on my TBR already.)
So… what does this all mean for my book buying limit for 2022? Well, because I apparently can’t count at all, I made a new row on my giant TBR spreadsheet to figure it out for me. So, the numbers now stand at:
- Commenced 2022 with physical TBR: 457
- Increased physical TBR in 2022 by: 78
- Subtotal physical TBR: 535
- Read physical books: 34
- Unhauled physical books on my TBR: 39
- TOTAL PHYSICAL TBR: 462
- TBR variance: +12
Ok, so… My goal was to keep my TBR at 450 or lower. I didn’t make it. BUT, it’s not over 500, which it easily could have been. So, I’m taking the win. Bring on 2023’s TBR!!
What was in your December 2022 book haul?

I love this idea of yours about an actual status report of books bought/received/ TBR vs. actual books read. When I promote a book, I may have every intention of reading it and even start with it, but something happens along the way and I end up reading something totally different. I’m supremely relieved to know I’m not alone in this.
