December 2020 book haul
Happy New Year bookworms!! Welcome to the final book haul for 2020, and the first post for 2021 – the December 2020 book haul!!
I was mostly good in December. In fact, I was so good that I got books from Santa which was lovely. However, this does mean that I ended up well over my 10 book limit for the month!! Oops?!!
Book haul categories are as follows:
- subscription boxes
- book purchases (book mail, in-store, digital* and gifts)
- review copies (book mail and digital)
* Not counting Kindle Unlimited

I subscribe to four monthly boxes: OwlCrate, FairyLoot and the book-only subscription for LitJoy and Illumicrate. However, as of 2021, LitJoy is now a quarterly box and I’ve heard rumours that FairyLoot are looking at a book-only subscription too.
International shipping is starting to catch up… . So, here is where I stand with books that arrived in December:
- ? = arrived in a previous month
- ✅ = arrived this month
- ? = in transit
- ➡️ = skipped
- ?️ = parked (not out yet)
- ❌ = confirmed that it was lost to the mail gremlins (but thankfully refunded)

Special Editions | ✅ How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories |
?️ ?️ ?️ |
✅ Daughter of Smoke and Bone |
Meaning, the following books arrived in December:
- The November Illumicrate was The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow, with BONUS book Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
- OwlCrate special edition How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black
- Illumicrate special edition Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
Ok, so I BOUGHT nine books in December, and then I received three individual books and a six book box set for Christmas. So that’s 18 books. Which feels like a lot. But… is it really?? (Note: This is me trying to justify this number of books… and it isn’t even my highest book haul month. It’s not even my third highest monthly haul…)

Yes, if you’ve been keeping track, I now own three copies of How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories. The normal paperback (Aus version), the OwlCrate, and the Barnes and Noble one. I’m aware I should probably be ashamed of this. I’m not. I’m trash and I will own it.
Unbelievably, because I am the most trash reviewer ever, I still got review copies of books in December. I know, I’m shocked too.

Now, I have kind-of read The Home Edit Life. By that I mean I’ve flicked through it, and tabbed and read a bunch of pages that are relevant to me. I skipped the whole chapter on kids (because, not relevant). And honestly, most of the book is gorgeous photos of stylistic and aesthetically pleasing organised cupboards and shelves.
BUT, there is a small section on books specifically, and I am in LOVE with it. I already organise most of my books by rainbow, but I mostly loved it because one of the paragraphs is about how you SHOULD collect books and fill your home with them. So, obviously Joanna and Clea know what they are talking about!!
How was your December 2020 book haul?

Oh wow this is quite a haul! I got 5 books in December and I’m already trying to figure out how to fit them onto my TBR ?

I just cry and then hide under my duvet when I think about my TBR. ???

Oh wow, that cover of DOSAB is just gorgeous! I don’t really like any of the covers for that series, but that one is something special. I hope you love Wildwood! I finished the series last year, and it was just an absolute delight.

Oooh, that’s great news, Mary!! I think you’re the only person I know who has read it. I just saw it in the bookstore and thought it looked interesting.
I’m also not a fan of many of the DOSAB covers, but I don’t mind the Aus paperback ones. It’s the door with the burned handprint on it. But I don’t love the other two covers in the series.

It always bums me out because the Strange duology is so pretty!
