    Liebster Award 2018

Hello lovelies! Thad at Baking Thad AND Rebecca at Bookisly Rebecca both nominated me for the 2018 Liebster Award. I am so honoured you guys! You can check out both of their blogs in the links above. You can read the rules for the Liebster Award over at the Global Aussie here, but otherwise, lets get right into these questions, firstly from Thad: 1. What’s the worst book you’ve ever read? Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. And I’m not even sorry about saying it. It’s not the play format (Rosencrantz and…

  • Why I’ll be sharing a Book Depository link from now on

Hi guys! So, this is just a note from me to you to let you know that I’ll be adding a Book Depository link to all my reviews from now on, and I’ll probably eventually go back and add them to old ones too. Now, IT’S NOT WHAT YOU THINK. Well, it’s kind of what you think. The link is a commission link, but it’s not a commission link for me. The link is for a friend of mine who has had some hardships (the government took away their study…

  • Paris, France!

Paris est magique! We had the loveliest time in Paris. We stayed the first night in a hotel because we got in really late (almost midnight), but after that we stayed with a family through Airbnb, and they didn’t speak a word of English, and my French is really, really bad, but it was fine! We understood each other through lots of hand gestures and smiling and the 10 French words I do know! The Airbnb we were staying at was about a block (and a thousand stairs) from the Sacré-Cœur,…

  • Honeymoon adventure – UK part 2

Day five started off later than the others, I think we’re finally getting over our jet lag. Karen and Chris’ hospitality at the Airbnb was spectacular, I wish I had taken a photo of the breakfast they had set up for us, it was like staying at a hotel! We got on the road and our first stop of the day was Bowness-on-Windermere where we spent some time wandering around the lake and chasing swans and geese (no, seriously, we are children with jobs and income). Husband decided he wanted…

  • Honeymoon adventure – UK part 1

Every night when I go to sit down and write my blog posts I’m usually so exhausted that I have passed out by 8:00pm. It could also be the jet lag, or the fact that we have barely stopped since arriving in the country… Who knows these things? Upon leaving home, we realised that, in wanting to make the most of the trip, I had booked us on a 6:00am international flight. No worries, except that we couldn’t catch the local transport bus from home to the airport because the…

  • Peanut butter chocolate chip cookies

So, I am a terribly unorganised blogger.  I usually forget to take photos of baked goods for recipes, and when I do remember I’ve usually missed the natural goodness of daylight so they look terrible.  Anyway, I’m pretty impressed with myself today as I absolutely remembered to take (lots) of pics while I was baking!  So now you get to see some of the process as well! Ingredients 125g butter, melted 155g brown sugar 125g peanut butter (I use a light peanut butter) 2 tsp vanilla essence 1 egg 2…

  • Cheesy bacon dip

Have you ever had a cheesy bacon dip that is in the middle of a big cob loaf?  And you use the bread chunks that have been hollowed out to scoop the dip out?  And you sit there eating it until you either make yourself sick or it’s all gone?  No?  I’ve never done that either… (do you believe me?) This is that recipe. Ingredients large round loaf of bread 350g sour cream 350g bacon, cooked and crumbled 250g cream cheese, at room temperature 250g grated cheese 1/3 cup sliced spring onions Method Preheat oven…

  • Book of Mormon – the Musical

So last Friday night I went and saw the musical Book of Mormon by the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone.  I had received my latest treatment in the hospital that morning, so after a nap, the first thing I desperately wanted to do was take a one hour train trip into Melbourne CBD and sit in a theatre for 2.5 hours.  But I did it anyway! Go watch it!  Like, really, that’s all you need to know.  That’s my whole review in a nutshell.  It is…

  • Baking fails!

So I spend some weekends baking up a storm, and then forget to take photos to add to the blog.  So when I go to publish recipes that I have either created or amended from their original (it’s not often I will not play with a recipe when I bake) I have no photo.  So, because of this I have a bunch of draft posts, with no photos… I also have some massive baking (and decorating) fails, and I usually remember to take photos of them.  Anyway, it’s hard to…

  • Not so crash hot…

So I haven’t been feeling particularly well over the last couple of weeks.  I think I hide it pretty well at work, but the last week in particular has been a bit hard.  I’ve worked from home for an afternoon and we were off-site one day anyway. I had my latest treatment at the hospital on Friday morning.  My doctor has changed my schedule from receiving the infliximab infusion from every eight weeks to every six weeks.  Recent blood tests have shown that the medication isn’t staying in my blood…

  • Honey teriyaki chicken wings

As I may have mentioned, a friend of mine (that’s you Ben) has requested more savoury type dishes.  He’s a savoury type of guy.  And I’m pretty sure I’ve made these for him before.  Now that we’ve moved from two floors up to about 800km away, I thought I might share this with him… and everyone else. Ingredients: 1.5 kg chicken wings 1 tablespoon corn flour 1 1/3 cups soy sauce 1/3 cup Mirin rice cooking wine 1/2 cup honey 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger 2-3 tbsp Sriracha,…
