Good evening bookworms!
I’m pretty sure I warned you about how extra I am going to be this month, so, consider yourselves prepared – the double posts will happen this month. (You’re welcome!)

This post is part of Bookending Autumn 2019, which is organized by Sam & Clo! The prompt for today, “Fall Festival Book Photo Tag” is hosted by Danielle @ Poetry Books YA! If you want to do this prompt, please don’t forget to link back to Danielle’s post!
Prompt Explanation: Using fall colors (red, orange, black, white, green) and books you have read or want to read during the fall.

  • Chilly – Book with a white cover (sad plot line/setting)
  • Sweet – Book with an orange cover (favorite contemporary novel)
  • Spicy – Book with a red cover (action/fast-paced setting)
  • Dark – Book with a black or dark cover (dark, twisted theme)
  • Green – Book with a green cover that makes you feel jealous

Oh. My. God. WHYYYYY did I pull all my books off my shelves and stack them on the floor BEFORE writing this post?! I am a crazy person. (I mean, I know why, it was so Matt could add the extra shelves on… but now I can’t see my books and I don’t remember what colour the covers are!!)
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine

Chilly – Book with a white cover (sad plot line/setting)

Ok, I am freely admitting that I still haven’t finished read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. So, this is me taking a pot shot that this book is going to absolutely destroy me when I do finish read it. And this is my guess after reading about 10 pages. Which, is barely anything.
However, I have a terrible feeling, that I’m going to be right about this one (and it’s possibly the reason that I may or may not be putting it off).
The Bride Test

Sweet – Book with an orange cover (favorite contemporary novel)

I know it’s kind of more yellow than orange, but please indulge me for this one!! Orange is HAAARD!! However, The Bride Test by Helen Hoang is definitely one of my favourite contemporary(ish) books that I’ve read this year. (I know it’s kind of more romance, but I was going to pick I Was Born for This by Alice Oseman… but I haven’t actually read it yet…)
Anyway, I love this book so much. The characters are amazing, and I just love Khai so much it hurts.
Illuminae

Spicy – Book with a red cover (action/fast-paced setting)

The Illumine Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff definitely hits this prompt of action AND a fast paced book! The cover is a lovely shade of RED that is bright enough to kind of scream in your face, and the highlighted titles and blacked out sections kind of set you up to know that it’s almost like a spy series (but set in space).
The plot is amazing, and if by some miracle you haven’t read it, then I really think you need to!! Great characters, great moral dilemmas, great ‘villain’, great space facts (on Twitter, anyway).
White Cat

Dark – Book with a black or dark cover (dark, twisted theme)

You know, it wasn’t until I had finished reading this book, written the review and have been pondering reading the others in the series that I realised… this story is about 50 shades of f***ed up. Yup, White Cat by Holly Black is exactly so much deeper than what it appears to be on the surface. I think it’s the family dynamics, and I’ve actually been thinking about writing a follow up post on this because it kind of blows my mind a little.
And then I remember that HB also wrote The Cruel Prince and it all makes sense again. These books are onions of twistedness, friends.
The Hating Game

Green – Book with a green cover that makes you feel jealous

Ahhh… jealous that I didn’t write it? Jealous that Lucy can play mind games with her nemesis every day? Jealous that she’s secretly in love with him and doesn’t realise it? I mean, I’m kind of all those things (although I would not trade the Husband in for 50 Josh Templemans… I mean, maybe…)
I forget where I was going with this… Oh! Yes, The Hating Game by Sally Thorne is AH-MAZING. Enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, office setting, mid-20’s protagonists… the only thing it’s missing is dragons. But it does have smurfs instead! And BOOKS.

What books would you use for these prompts?!
