Book Addiction Tag
Good morning bookworms!
Sorry, I’m a bit late with posting today as I went to the Darkdawn book launch in Melbourne last night, and I am tired! I met up with some friends and after we exited the bookstore (at 9:30pm) we went out for dinner and then I took the tram back to my hotel room (where I proceeded to stay up late continuing my reread of Nevernight…) So this morning I took full advantage of the late check out and then did a small shop along Collins St. I’m currently having a *very* late breakfast at a cafe, and then it’s back to the airport to fly home to Canberra!
Anyway… one of my favourite bookish friends, Isabelle @ Bookwyrm Bites (who I feel adopted me into the blogging world, seriously, Isabelle is the greatest), tagged me to do the book addiction tag. I’m not sure why… I mean, it’s not like I’ve taken a 1600 km round trip over 24 hours just to go to a book launch or anything… *cough*
So… now that we’ve established I should not be throwing stones, lest my poor glass house get shattered, let’s begin!
What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?
If I’m really busy, sick or going through a gaming phase, probably about 4-5 days. Otherwise a day or two.
How many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?
At least 1 physical book, sometimes 2 if I’m close to the end of a book! I don’t own a kindle per say, but I have the kindle app on my iPad mini, so umm, HEAPS on it! (But I don’t often take it with me…)
Do you keep every book you ever buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?
I just had a massive clean out a couple of months ago, so I can safely say that I am happy to make space!! But I’m more likely to keep a book if it’s a gift or a special edition.
How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?
Left alone to my own devices? An hour or more. If hubs is with me? I’m allowed 30 mins max! (He genuinely sets a timer, and usually a dollar limit…)
How much time per day do you actually spend reading?
Weekdays is probably around an hour. Weekends I can sit in my armchair and read all day (so long as I do my housework at some stage as well)!
Where does the task “picking up a book” appear on your daily to-do list?
It doesn’t, really – unless I have a review copy to read. But it usually happens organically!
How many books do you reckon you own in total, including ebooks?
OMG, I shudder to think… Well over 1,000 physical books… Maybe 1,500? And probably about 100 or so digital books.
Approximately how often do you bring up books in conversation?
With hubs it’s pretty frequently, but not very often (I don’t have many bookwork close friends).
What is the biggest book (page count) that you have finished reading?
The Red Queen by Isobelle Carmody, which comes in at a staggering 1107 page count.
Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds? i.e. searching through bookshops, online digging, etc.?
I did spend a good two months hunting for a hardcover copy of the UK edition of Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. AND I found it at a fairly reasonable price too!
A book you struggled to finish, but refused to DNF?
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. And, predictably, I hated it.
What are three of your main book goals for 2019?
Oooh… you know, I can’t even remember!! The wrap-up this year is going to be interesting!! But I did want to read 100 books, even though I only set my Goodreads goal at 90.
Have you ever had the privilege of converting someone into a reader (maybe via inspiration or incessant nagging)?
My cousin’s daughter and my nephews are the receivers of MANY books from me. I am happy to say that my cousin’s daughter is a very enthusiastic fantasy reader (she’s 13); however, both nephews are a bit slower on the uptake… however, both are under 2, so that’s allowed right now.
Describe what books mean to you in five words
My favourite thing… after hubs.

I think having a timer and amount limit is very good and I should show it to my parents – or not since I know my dad would actually set a timer for me too 😄
I love your bookshelves!! So pretty ❤❤ more books is good!!
With you guys – my blogger friends 🤗 of course I talk about books tons but with my usual friends and family? My one group of friends does not read (my other friend does and works in a bookstore so we have fun) and my family ahhaha no way am I going to be able to talk about most books I read.
I had Wuthering Heights for a set book in university and DISLIKED IT with a fiery passion and just sped straight to SparkNotes.

Oh wow, I’m so glad there’s someone else out there who didn’t like WH!! I just thought their relationship was so toxic!! Like, that’s not good for anyone!!
dbsguidetothegalaxy
RIGHT?? I don’t understand why girls set their entire hopes on a Wuthering Heights type of relationship when it’s so unhealthy?? Like Heathcliffe (is that even the right spelling?) is so extremely abusive and just a wrong model for a relationship and love interest? Why are girls interested in this??

I don’t know!! But it is SO WRONG!! And bad!! And just TOXIC!! Definitely not romantic at all.
dbsguidetothegalaxy
Absolutely!

Yes, the timer is necessary, otherwise he would just have to leave me there… forever!!
